Who are the people who live in your region? Are they native or immigrant, and what is the impact on the region because of this?

For the weekly and final writing assignments, you will need to pick one of the regions (and continue with this region throughout the course) outlined in the text to pursue further study. These include: Europe, Russia, the Middle East & North Africa, South and East Asia, Oceania, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and the United States and Canada. NOTE: you cannot pick a region that you are from, for example, if you are from the United States, you must pick another region.
The papers are designed to provide you a chance to do more in-depth research and develop a greater understanding of a specific region based on the readings and class discussions. By the end of the class session, your shorter papers will be combined into a larger, and more developed paper on your specific region.
So what do I need to do for these papers?
Get a piece of paper, or a note pad or even a Post-it ® pad. If you use a larger piece of paper, fold it in to quarters, or fourths. That way you can use the four parts (eight if you use the back) to separate and organize your thoughts.
Now imagine yourself in your region, and imagine you are at an open space where there are many people whom you can observe, talk too, and interact with as well.
Now, consider these questions to formulate your outline and your first paper (People of your Region):
Who are the people who live in your region? Are they native or immigrant, and what is the impact on the region because of this?
How do these people make a living? What do they do that changed the region in history?
Make a final statement including your opinion and conclusions

In digital transmission systems with pulse interval modulation (PIM) having alphabet {0,…,M -…

In digital transmission systems with pulse interval modulation (PIM) having alphabet {0,…,M − 1}, we associate to the symbol value n the transmission of a particular waveform h(t) with limited support (0, Tb), preceded by a “mute” interval of length nTb. For example, we have
a) Show that the modulator can be decomposed into the cascade of a source encoder and an interpolate filter
where the message # bq $ has a binary alphabet Ab = {0, 1}. Give the encoder map µs and state whether Db is a prefix code.
b) Find the information rate of # bq $ when {ak} is made of iid symbols with equally likely values, M = 8 and Tb = 1 ns.
c) Under the same hypotheses as in b) find the statistical power of the transmitted signal s(t). Assume h(t) has energy

The equivalent of a new kindergarten class is born every day at Orlando’s Arnold Palmer Hospital…. 1 answer below »

The equivalent of a new kindergarten class is born every day at Orlando’s Arnold Palmer Hospital. With more than 13,000 births in the mid-2000s in a hospital that was designed 15 years earlier for a capacity of 6,500 births a year, the newborn intensive care unit was stretched to the limit. Moreover, with continuing strong population growth in central Florida, the hospital was often full. It was clear that new facilities were needed. After much analysis, forecasting, and discussion, the management team decided to build a new 273-bed building across the street from the existing hospital. But the facility had to be built in accordance with the hospital’s Guiding Principles and its uniqueness as a health center dedicated to the specialized needs of women and infants. Those Video Case Guiding Principles are: Family-centered focus, a healing environment where privacy and dignity are respected, sanctuary of caring that includes warm, serene surroundings with natural lighting, sincere and dedicated staff providing the highest quality care, and patient-centered flow and function . The vice president of business development, Karl Hodges, wanted a hospital that was designed from the inside out by the people who understood the Guiding Principles, who knew most about the current system, and who were going to use the new system, namely, the doctors and nurses. Hodges and his staff spent 13 months discussing expansion needs with this group, as well as with patients and the community, before developing a proposal
or the new facility. An administrative team created 35 user groups, which held over 1,000 planning meetings (lasting from 45 minutes to a whole day). They even created a “Supreme Court” to deal with conflicting views on the multifaceted issues facing the new hospital. Funding and regulatory issues added substantial complexity to this major expansion, and Hodges was very concerned that the project stay on time and within budget. Tom Hyatt, director of facility development, was given the task of onsite manager of the $100 million project, in addition to overseeing ongoing renovations, expansions, and other projects. The activities in the multiyear project for the new building at Arnold Palmer are shown in Table 3.7 .
Discussion Questions *
1. Develop the network for planning and construction of the new hospital at Arnold Palmer. 2. What is the critical path, and how long is the project expected to take?
3. Why is the construction of this 11-story building any more complex than construction of an equivalent office building?
4. What percent of the whole project duration was spent in planning that occurred prior to the proposal and reviews? Prior to the actual building construction? Why?
