Assembling a Career Path | Nursing School Essays

LASA 2—Assembling a Career Path
This course provided you an overview of the discipline of psychology, including expectations for the psychology major, career options for students completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and career options for students who pursue a graduate degree.
Review from the readings the information on career paths for psychologists and counselors and do some of your own research using credible sources. Drawing upon the information you collected and analyzed in previous assignments and research, write a paper that outlines the career path that you think is most suitable for you at this point in your educational experience.
Be as specific as possible and include each of the following items in your paper:

Identify a career path and explain why it is a suitable choice.
Identify the skills, experiences, and educational requirements for this path.
Identify your strengths and weaknesses and explain how they relate to your chosen path.
Describe skills and experiences you have already gained and the preparation you have already made.
Describe skills, preparation, and experiences you still lack (e.g., research experience, volunteer work, and development of a professional network).
Outline a clear plan (including a time line) for meeting these goals and gaining these skills and experiences. Do outside research to discuss specifically where you can gain these skills and experiences, how much it will cost, and how you plan to prioritize.
Select and describe at least one professional organization that would be appropriate for you to join in your chosen career path and why it is the most appropriate. Identify the specific resources and standards it would provide you as a professional.
Design a plan for how you will ensure ongoing personal and professional development throughout your career. Include in the plan strategies established by research studies that foster a balance between physical and mental health. Identify options for seeking continued professional education in your area of interest or specialization upon graduation (e.g., conferences and online continuing education programs for professionals). Be specific and cite at least two sources for your personal and professional development plan.

Display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Cite at least one academic source for each of the bulleted items in the list above. Be sure to demonstrate ethical scholarship in the accurate representation and attribution of sources.

Review the Resources and reflect on the impact of clinical systems on outcomes and efficiencies within the context of nursing practice and healthcare delivery.

Nurse informaticists and healthcare leaders formulate clinical system strategies. As these strategies are often based on technology trends, informaticists and others have then benefited from consulting existing research to inform their thinking.
In this Assignment, you will review existing research focused on the application of clinical systems. After reviewing, you will summarize your findings.
To Prepare:
Review the Resources and reflect on the impact of clinical systems on outcomes and efficiencies within the context of nursing practice and healthcare delivery.
Conduct a search for recent (within the last 5 years) research focused on the application of clinical systems. The research should provide evidence to support the use of one type of clinical system to improve outcomes and/or efficiencies, such as “the use of personal health records or portals to support patients newly diagnosed with diabetes.”
Identify and select 5 peer-reviewed articles from your research.
The Assignment: (4-5 pages)
In a 4- to 5-page paper, synthesize the peer-reviewed research you reviewed. Be sure to address the following:
Identify the 5 peer-reviewed articles you reviewed, citing each in APA format.
Summarize each study, explaining the improvement to outcomes, efficiencies, and lessons learned from the application of the clinical system each peer-reviewed article described. Be specific and provide examples.

PCN-435 Module 1 DQ 1

Following the loss of his wife, Roy was treated with tranquilizers. Initially, Xanax helped Roy to sleep and eased the pain due to his loss. The tranquilizers did what they were supposed to do–slow down the central nervous system and create a calming effect. However, Roy soon found himself taking more pills than were prescribed in his initial prescription. After Roy’s doctor stopped prescribing the tranquilizers, he began seeking out additional medical specialists to write prescriptions for painkillers. He was successful in his efforts. In Roy’s mind, this was justified because he experienced unbearable sorrow, and the drugs were not illegal.
Roy began missing work and finding himself fatigued when he did make it to work. After a period of time, Roy was fired. Subsequently, the use of tranquilizers and painkillers continued to increase. Eventually, under the influence of the tranquilizers and painkillers, Roy found himself in an automobile accident that nearly took his life and three others in a second vehicle, including two young children. While in the hospital, Roy began treatment that was designed to alleviate his withdrawal symptoms and the psychological addiction to the painkillers, which now included oxycodone, an opioid agonist with an addiction potential similar to morphine. After an extensive stay in a treatment center, Roy was off the painkillers that had begun to ruin his life. However, several months later Roy found himself depending on caffeine, tobacco, and marijuana just to make it through the day.
Task: Using the integrative/multicausal perspective, answer the following questions and support your answers with evidence.

Why was it so easy for Roy to become addicted to the prescription drugs, and how did he justify his continued abuse of the painkillers?
Roy eventually started abusing oxycodone. Why is this considered one of the most dangerous drugs in its class, and for what reason(s) is it prescribed today?

Jamie is a 3-month-old female who presents with her mother for evaluation of “throwing up.” Mom reports that Jamie has been throwing up pretty much all the time since she was born. Jamie does not seem to be sick. In fact, she drinks her formula vigorously and often acts hungry. Jamie has normal soft brown bowel movements every day and, overall, seems like a happy and contented baby. She smiles readily and does not cry often. Other than the fact that she often throws up after drinking a bottle, she seems to be a very healthy, happy infant. A more precise history suggests that Jamie does not exactly throw up—she does not heave or act unwell—but rather it just seems that almost every time she drinks a bottle she regurgitates a milky substance. Mom thought that she might be allergic to her formula and switched her to a hypoallergenic formula. It didn’t appear to help at all, and now Mom is very concerned.
Cases like these are not uncommon. The mother was concerned and thinking her daughter may have an allergy; she changed to a different formula. However, sometimes babies have immature GI tracts that can lead to physiology reflux as they adapt to normal life outside the uterus. Parents often do not consider this possibility, prompting them to change formulas rather than seeking medical care. As in the case study above, GI alterations can often be difficult to identify because many cause similar symptoms. This same issue also arises with adults—adults may present with symptoms that have various potential causes. When evaluating patients, it is important for the advanced practice nurse to know the types of questions he or she needs to ask to obtain the appropriate information for diagnosis. For this reason, you must have an understanding of common GI disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and gastritis.
To Prepare
Review this week’s media presentation on the gastrointestinal system.
Review Chapter 35 in the Huether and McCance text. Identify the normal pathophysiology of gastric acid stimulation and production.
Review Chapter 37 in the Huether and McCance text. Consider the pathophysiology of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease (PUD), and gastritis. Think about how these disorders are similar and different.
Select a patient factor different from the one you selected in this week’s Discussion: genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Consider how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of GERD, PUD, and gastritis. Reflect on how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment of these disorders for a patient based on this factor.
Review the “Mind Maps—Dementia, Endocarditis, and Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD)” media in the Week 2 Learning Resources. Use the examples in the media as a guide to construct a mind map for gastritis. Consider the epidemiology and clinical presentation of gastritis.
To Complete
Write a 2- to 3-page paper that addresses the following:
Describe the normal pathophysiology of gastric acid stimulation and production. Explain the changes that occur to gastric acid stimulation and production with GERD, PUD, and gastritis disorders.
Explain how the factor you selected might impact the pathophysiology of GERD, PUD, and gastritis. Describe how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment of these disorders for a patient based on the factor you selected.
Construct a mind map for gastritis. Include the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation, as well as the diagnosis and treatment you explained in your paper.
