Examine the human resource management functions of recruiting and selecting, and their importance to business strategy

Assume for this assignment that you are being highly considered for a director-level HR management position for a best-in-class national retailer. You are in the final phase of the interview process and must respond to the interview panel regarding specific questions and scenarios that will help them determine if you are a good fit for the new role. The company’s culture is centered on the effective development of strategy, plans, and selection criteria aimed at building and sustaining a competitive and profitable organization. It will be extremely important that you respond with a strategic mindset in order to convince the organization you are able to help them ensure the execution of the business strategy.
Write a six (6) page paper in which you:
Analyze different types of strategies (cost leadership, differentiation, and focus/niche) and select which one you would deem more appropriate for an “efficiency-minded” retail organization and explain your rationale. How would the selected strategy ultimately affect how HR does its job?
Examine the four (4) approaches to job design/redesign and provide an example (not a definition) of each. Then, make a case to the interviewing panel on the importance of effective job design applications in supporting the overall strategic goals of the organization.
Consider challenges and constraints associated with recruiting workers and identify and discuss at least two (2) issues. What advice would you give to ease your selected issues? Be specific.
List and describe 2–3 candidate selection process ideas that might add value and overall effectiveness to the process. HINT: http://www.selectinternational.com/blog/bid/147051/5-Tips-for-Designing-an-Effective-Employee-Selection-System. A Draft of Reseach Investigation:
Overview: For this milestone, due in Module Five, you will submit a draft of your final paper. Your instructor will give you feedback on your paper to help you improve it for the final version. Do the best possible job on your draft; the more closely it meets the final requirements, t he less editing you will have to do on the final version, which is due in Module Seven. Your draft should incorporate the instructor feedback gained thus far in the course. It will also be important for you to apply the feedback you receive from this draft to your final submission. The final project is meant for you to propose a hypothetical study. You are not and should not be conducting human subjects research for this project. It is not necessary for the purposes of this assignment. All human subjects research requires written approval from the SNHU COCE Institutional Review Board in order to protect the welfare and ensure ethical treatment of the subjects.Prompt: You may use material from your Topic Proposal and Literature Review Worksheet and discussion posts, as these assignments were based directly on the final paper requirements. Their purpose was to help you gather material to use in the final paper. The research investigation paper requires seven references to meet the literature review requirements in the rubric. You may use references from the milestones or substitute other appropriate references, as long as you use a total of seven. Follow the rubric requirements very closely, since your grade is based on how well your draft meets the requirements in each of the rubric categories.
Be sure to use the Final Project Paper Template as a guide to ensure you meet all of the requirements. The template is formatted in APA style, which you must use in your final submission.Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:I.  Literature Review: In this part of the assessment you will analyze existing research to determine how the field of biopsychology has changed over time, how researchers have designed research to study of the biological processes that influence human behavior, and how issues of ethics have been addressed historically in the field.A.  Summarize the claims made by the authors of the existing research in the field regarding how the basic functions of the brain and nervous system influence human behavior. In other words, what conclusions have the authors of the research reached about how the brain and the nervous system influence human behavior? For example, what claims do the authors make about the influence of neurotransmitters on human behavior? What claims are made about the influence of major components of the brain on human behavior, such as the hippocampus or the amygdala?B.  Explain how advancements in technology have influenced research on human behavior. In other words, how has the development of new technologies in biopsychology changed the approach to studying biological influences on human behavior?C.  Explain how the view of the influence of biological processes on human behavior has evolved over the history of biopsychology. Be sure to support your analysis with examples from research to support your claim.D.  Explain the conclusions you can reach about research in biopsychology. In other words, explain what we know about the biological influences on human behavior, based on your review of the existing research in the field. Be sure to support your analysis with examples from research tosupport your claim. E.  Describe the specific research designs used in the existing research in the field to address research questions. For example, what were the specific methods used to address their research question? What type of research design was used?F.  Explain how research designs were used by authors to conduct research in biopsychology. In other words, how did the research designs used by researchers help in conducting research regarding biopsychology?G.  Discuss how issues of ethics have been addressed in the existing research in the field. For example, how did the authors inform the participants of what the experiment would entail? How did the authors account for any potential risks to participants associated with the study?H.  Discuss how issues of ethics in biopsychology have been viewed historically. In other words, how have issues of ethics in the field been viewed over time? Has this view changed as the field has progressed? II.  Research Design: In this part of the assessment, use your previous analysis of the existing research in the field to develop your research design. You will identify a gap in the research you have reviewed, explain how the research supports further exploration of that aspect of biopsychology, and develop a research question addressing the gap. You will then determine an appropriate research design and explain how it could be implemented and how you will account for issues of ethics in your proposed research question.A.  Identify a gap in biopsychology research that is unexplored or underdeveloped. For example, is there an unexplored aspect of the biological influences on human behavior that you believe could be further explored? B.  Develop a basic research question addressing the identified gap. In other words, create a question that you could answer in potential research further investigating your identified gap. Be sure to support your developed research question with examples from research to support your claims.C.  Determine an appropriate research design that addresses your research question regarding biopsychology and explain why it was chosen. Be sure to support your response with examples from your analysis and the existing research in the field that supports the determined research design.D.  Explain how you will account for issues of ethics associated with your proposed research. Figure 1.1: Relationship of overall strategic plan to business unit plans. Adapted from Strategic Planning and Marketing in Healthcare Organizations by R. Stevens and L. S. Silver, 2015, section 1.2: “The Importance of Strategic Planning and Marketing – Strategic Planning Process Overview.” Copyright 2015 by Bridgepoint Education, Inc.
The healthcare delivery system is often described as a service-driven industry. Therefore, it is vitally important for healthcare organizations to define the services that they are providing; however, it is equally important to determine the demographics or customer base that requires the specific service.
The strategic planning process supports the healthcare organization by prioritizing objectives and detailing the actions needed to fulfil the goals of the business plan. Specific actions are unique and depend on the healthcare organization’s services, goals, and mission. Not all objectives outlined in the strategic plan require marketing plans (e.g., purchasing land, equipment, and buildings). Other objectives may require a marketing plan (e.g., providing physical therapy targeted toward a specific demographic).
To prepare for this discussion, read Chapters 1 and 2 of the course text. You may also want to review the recommended article by Yang (2010). Then read the scenario below and construct your initial post based on the directives that follow.
Scenario
The marketing director for Happy Valley long-term care center looks at the organization’s strategic plan to differentiate marketable objectives from non-marketable objectives. Objectives found in the healthcare organization’s strategic plan include the following:
Purchasing medical equipment
Purchasing more land
Acquiring financial capital
Acquiring physical resources
Providing elder day care to Alzheimer’s patients
Providing physical therapy
Providing social activities such as bingo
Promoting product awareness such as: marketing in a manor to improve the public’s perception of the HCO’s product or service
Providing shuttle service to medical appointments
Increasing sales
Creating a brand
Establishing the organization as a leader in the long-term care industry
Initial Post: Based on the Happy Valley scenario detailed above and the information presented in Chapters 1 and 2 of the course text, construct an initial post in which you
Differentiate between the organization’s stated objectives as to whether they are marketable or non-marketable objectives.
Select the marketable objectives (i.e., those you would recommend developing in a marketing plan), and explain why you consider those objectives marketable.
Explain why the marketing plan objectives should be in line with the objectives in the healthcare organization’s strategic plan.
Be sure to provide concrete examples from the text and from your own research. Each source should be cited and referenced according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site..
Guided Response: Respond to at least two of your classmates’ initial posts. You are encouraged to post your required replies early in the week to promote more meaningful interactive discourse in this discussion. Choose one or two specific marketing objectives outlined by your fellow learners and describe the possible positive impact for the organization’s strategic plan. Be sure to support each peer response by citing and referencing at least one scholarly source to validate your assertions. Continue to monitor the discussion forum until 5:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) on Day 7 of the week and respond to anyone who replies to your initial post.

What Employee Behaviors that Warrant a Discipline Without Punishment Approach?

Milestone #3 – Critical Element: Complaint Procedure
The two links provided below outline best practices for handling employee complaints. Each of these articles has the same underlying principles for handling complaints:
· take the complaints seriously
· do not delay in handling the issue
· develop a plan to uncover all the facts
· ensure proper follow-up and resolution
· ensure fair and consistent treatment of the inappropriate workplace behavior
Critical Element: Discipline Process
As recommended in the guidance video for Milestone #3, a solid approach to “discipline” in the workplace is “discipline without punishment.” The following article is very helpful when analyzing a recommended discipline process for your Milestone #3 assignment. This article examines the principles of discipline without punishment as taught by Dick Grote in his renown book. This same article examines the traditional approach to handling employee performance issues and why that approach is ineffective. I highly recommend that you review this valuable article.
https://www.watson-training.com/blog2/46-discipline-with-punishment-a-best-practices-approach-to-disciplining-employees.html
To ensure you all understand when is discipline approach is appropriate and not appropriate, listed below are a few examples for you to consider. Before implementing a discussion about performance issues, management should always ensure that the root cause of a performance issue is not lack of needed resources or adequate training.
Employee Behaviors that Warrant a Discipline Without Punishment Approach
· Tardiness
· Excessive absenteeism
· Poor quality work
· Poor customer service
· Missed deadlines
Employee Behaviors that Warrant a Serious Form of Discipline: Written Warning or Termination
· Harassment
· Sexual harassment
· Violence in the workplace
· Theft
· Under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs
Let’s continue our discussion in the Module 6 forum. Let me know if you have any questions about your Milestone #3 assignment.
