should the election be ruled invalid (be sure to name the appropriate test for judging elections and apply that test to analyze the relevant facts)?

A week before a certification election, a WalShop store manager (who resides in Walnut) walks by a Rancho Cucamonga church in order to observe a union organizing meeting she read about on a bulletin board in the employee cafeteria. According to her rough count, approximately a hundred of the 250 employees at the store were attending. She looks for familiar faces from the sidewalk outside (and makes notes of what she observes) but does not attempt to make contact with anyone going inside the church. After several nervous employees called the manager’s presence out to the union supporter, Arturo Cruz, Cruz comes outside and orders the manager to leave. After a brief argument, the manager departs but not before wagging her finger at the church and shouting “Unions will be the death of us all!” The union loses the election by a close margin (120 in favor of certification, 130 against). Shortly thereafter, Cruz is reassigned to the graveyard shift, a move he adamantly opposes. The union files two unfair labor charges against WalShop: (1) claiming that Cruz was reassigned to retaliate for his union activities; and (2) claiming that the supervisor’s presence and words constituted a “threat of reprisal” and thereby invalidated the election. In testimony before the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ), the supervisor states she was merely in the neighborhood and walked by out of curiosity. Management tells the ALJ that it neither ordered nor was aware of the supervisor’s action at the time it occurred. A regional vice president admitted, however, that he received a memo from the manager the day after the meeting describing what she had seen (including the names of some prominent employees in attendance) but claims to have taken no action based on the memo. Also, the vice president admitted that Cruz was considered a “troublesome” employee but asserted that he was needed on the graveyard shift because of his extensive knowledge of the store. On the first unfair practice claim, did WalShop commit an unfair labor practice by reassigning Cruz (specify the section of the NLRA that the union alleges was violated and be sure to name the appropriate test the NLRB uses to evaluate discharge or discipline cases as well as apply all of the elements of that test to analyze the relevant facts)? On the second unfair practice claim, without regard to whether an unfair labor practice occurred, should the election be ruled invalid (be sure to name the appropriate test for judging elections and apply that test to analyze the relevant facts)? Be sure to explain your answers to both subparts of this essay.

Relationship between Purpose of Study and Data Analysis Techniques
Analyzing research studies consist of many components. One of the components is descriptive statistics. Descriptive statistics helps describe, show or summarize data in a meaningful way such that, for example, patterns might emerge from the data ( Laerd Statistics, 2013). Descriptive statistics basically describes the data you are analyzing. In the case study “Social Work Research: Measuring Group Success” the descriptive statistics I might use to analyze the data gathered in the case study are 8 women, 5/8 are Caucasian, 3/8 are Hispanic, 1/5 was married.8/8 are heterosexual, and 8/8 had PTSD ((Plummer, Makris, and Brocksen, 2014).The statistics I identified can guide me in evaluating the applicability of the study’s findings for my own practice in social work by using the outcome of this study to help assist women who may have or are experiencing the same challenges. The study also mentioned strategies that were used which provided evidence as to which interventions may be helpful.

Response 2: Statistical Significance and Variables
·      Respond to a colleague’s post by suggesting how statistical significance can be used in his or her research and practice.
·      Consider practical issues such as whether a social worker is looking for a treatment approach that might be more effective than what he or she has been using, whether the participants in the study are similar or different from the client the social worker is treating, or decisions about whether to continue a program.

  Statistical Significance and Variables
When conducting a research you may either choose to use statistically significance or clinical significance. “Statistically significance is the likelihood that a relationship between two or more variables is caused by something other than random chance” (Investopedia, 2017).  Bauer,Lambert &Nielsen (2004)  stated “ clinical significance refers to changes in patient functioning that are meaningful for individuals who undergo psychosocial or medical interventions” (p 60). Statistically significance would affect my practice decision making in a positive way because it would highlight a specific cause. The benefit would be helping a population that may have been studied before with the same issue and I would be able to connect causation. Clinical significance would affect my practice decision making in a constructive way as well because I would be able to focus on each patients functioning rather than grouping individuals together (Bauer,Lambert &Nielsen, 2004, p 60).
In the article “Effects of a New State Policy on Physical Activity Practices in Child Care Centers in South Carolina” the study focused on determining the volume to which child care centers in South Carolina improved physical activity practices after a new policy went into effect ( O’Neill et al.,2017). The statistically significance of the study was approached by the state-by time interaction of Physical Activity Environment Total Score in which overall acceptance of new physical standards in SC child care centers was associated with improvements in practices aimed at increasing children’s physical activity ( O’Neill et al.,2017). The study showed a statistical significance between the variable which was the standards of physical activity caused the improvements. The results would influence my practice as a social worker because I would conduct future research to help other centers and see if this strategy would work

Assignment 1: Biology Article
Due Week 5 and worth 120 points
Use the Internet and / or the Strayer Learning Resource Center to research aspects of biology.
Select an article from a magazine or newspaper that has something in it that pertains to biology. This will serve as the “target article” for this assignment. For instance, you can select an article about medicine, invasive species, nature, conservation, genetic technology, ecology, or any other topic that is related to biology. One purpose of this assignment is to help you become aware of how biology is related to your everyday life.
Write a one to three (1-3) page paper in which you:
Summarize the article in one (1) or more paragraphs, using your own words. Be sure to identify the article using an in-text citation in the body of the paper, as well as a reference in the reference section.
Explain how the article relates to this course. Identify which biological concepts from the course and / or text are relevant to the topic covered in the article. Citing the course text, discuss the ways in which this course does (or doesn’t) provide background information to help you understand the article and the larger issues surrounding it.
Explain why the article caught your attention. Relate the article to your life and to issues that are important to you. Discuss how or if the scientific knowledge about the topic covered in the article affects you directly or indirectly.
Discuss your opinion on how research on this topic should be funded. State whether you think taxpayer monies should support research on this topic or whether such research in this area should be funded by the private sector. Rate the importance of research on this topic, relative to other areas of research.
In addition to the target article, you should use at least one additional resource, such as your textbook or another article. You must have a reference section which contains an APA reference to your chosen article and all other sources. Additionally, you must provide in-text citations (in APA format) to your references in the body of the text. Integrate all sources into your paper using proper techniques of quoting, paraphrasing and summarizing, along with your in-text citations.
Your assignment must follow these formatting requirements:
Be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides; citations and references must follow APA or school-specific format. Check with your professor for any additional instructions.
Include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student’s name, the professor’s name, the course title, and the date. The cover page and the reference page are not included in the required assignment page length.
The specific course learning outcomes associated with this assignment are:
Use technology and information resources to research issues in biology.
Write clearly and concisely about biology using proper writing mechanics.
SCI115 DQ
Choose one of the following three topics for your primary post. Your primary post should address everything that the instructions call for (for the topic you choose). Your post should also be at least 125 words in length. Additionally, please respond to at least one other discussant on any topic.
Topic 1. Tumor-suppressor genes versus Proto-oncogenes. This is a library-research topic in which you are required to provide your sources. Mutations in tumor suppressor genes can contribute to or cause cancer, just as mutations in proto-oncogenes can also contribute to or cause cancer. However, tumor suppressor genes are very different from proto-oncogenes.
(a) What is the basic difference between a tumor suppressor gene and a proto-oncogene?
(b) Explain how mutations in these very different types of genes can cause or contribute to causing cancer.
Topic 2. Sexual Reproduction in Unicellular Eukaryotes. Watch the instructor’s video about “Sexual Reproduction in Unicellular Eukaryotes”, which is found in the Instructor Insights section for this week. For a single-celled species to be capable of sexual reproduction, the species must have both haploid and diploid forms
(a) Explain what diploid form of the organism must be capable of doing, for the species to reproduce sexually.
(b) Explain what haploid form of the organism must be capable of doing, for the species to reproduce sexually.
Reminder: you don’t need to cite my videos or the papers that the videos are based on, but if you use any other sources, you must cite them.
Topic 3. Apoptosis. Watch the Khan Academy video about apoptosis (“Apoptosis”, n.d.), then address the following issues in your own words:
(a) What is the difference between apoptosis and necrosis?
(b) What is the role of apoptosis in normal, healthy development?
Reminder: you don’t need to cite the Khan Academy video for this topic, but if you use any other sources, you must cite them.

Models and Rationales | Nursing School Essays

·         Readings
Use your Royse, Thyer, and Padgett text, Program Evaluation, to complete the following:

In Chapter 5, read the section, “How Do I Develop a Logic Model?,” pages 122–125.
Use the Capella University Library to complete the following:

Read Chyung, Wisniewski, Inderbitzen, and Campbell’s 2013 article, “An Improvement- and Accountability-Oriented Program Evaluation: An Evaluation of the Adventure Scouts Program,” in Performance Improvement Quarterly, volume 26, issue 3, pages 87–115. This article illustrates how an after-school program was designed and evaluated, illustrating each step of the process.

Read Calley’s 2009 article, “Comprehensive Program Development in Mental Health Counseling: Design, Implementation, and Evaluation,” in Journal of Mental Health Counseling, volume 31, issue 1, pages 9–21.
Use the Internet to complete the following:

Read the W. K. Kellogg Foundation Logic Model Development Guide. The W. K. Kellogg Foundation makes this and other resources available to promote nonprofit agencies in planning and evaluating their programs. As discussed in the Calley article assigned in this unit, many mental health counseling services are offered within nonprofit organizations that must demonstrate to stakeholders that their clients are improving as a result of services. Counselors can use logic models to communicate about counseling program development and evaluation. You will try your hand at developing a logic model for your discussion in this unit.
Models and Rationales
Resources
In this discussion, you will present your ideas for your program evaluation proposal for faculty and peer feedback. This discussion is a comprehensive one and should be at least 300–400 words. Complete the following:

First, select the program evaluation model that you will be using (Chyung, Wisniewski, Inderbitzen, & Campbell, 2013, p. 92), and offer your rationale for choosing this model in one paragraph.

Next, use Steps 1–4 in Table 2 of the Chyung, Wisniewski, Inderbitzen, and Campbell article (2013, p. 93) to identify:

The evaluand (the hypothetical program to be evaluated).

The overall purpose and type of evaluation to be conducted.

The stakeholders of the program.

Finally, develop a one-page logic model for the hypothetical program you are evaluating, and upload it with your discussion post. Use the video you viewed earlier in this unit to develop your understanding of logic models. The Program Logic Model (Chyung, Wisniewski, Inderbitzen, & Campbell, 2013, p. 97) offers an example of a clear but succinct way to present a logic model for a program.
