Where are the adrenal glands located? What is their function?

There are two adrenal glands and they rest on top of each kidney. Adrenal glands secrete hormones : adrenaline, noradrenaline, mineralocorticoid, glucocorticoid & androgens.
Here is a diagram showing the location of adrenal glands on top of each kidney :
Adrenal gland has two parts, anatomically : adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla. These two act like two separate endocrine glands. The adrenal medulla produces large amounts of the hormone adrenaline, also known as epinephrine, and small amounts of norepinephrine or noradrenaline. Epinephrine and norepinephrine are commonly referred to as the fight-or-flight hormones because they get the body prepared for stressful situations that require vigorous physical activity.
This diagram shows the effects of epinephrine (adrenaline) on different organs of body :
The adrenal cortex makes up the bulk of the adrenal gland. Its cells are organized into three layers of cells, forming an inner, a middle, and an outer region of the cortex.
The outer layer of the adrenal cortex secretes a group of hormones called “mineralocorticoid hormones” because they regulate the concentration of mineral electrolytes. The most important of these hormones is aldosterone, which regulates sodium reabsorption and potassium excretion by the kidneys.
The middle layer of the adrenal cortex secretes cortisol, which is a “glucocorticoid hormone”. Cortisol stimulates the liver to synthesize glucose from circulating amino acids. It causes adipose tissue to break down fat into fatty acids and causes the breakdown of protein into amino acids. The action of cortisol helps the body during stressful situations and helps maintain the proper glucose concentration in the blood between meals. Cortisol also helps reduce the inflammatory response.
Cells in the inner layer of the adrenal cortex produce small amount of the androgens in both male and female.

Working toward Becoming a Socially Responsible Company

Over the last five weeks, you have completed a great deal of research regarding your chosen organization. Based on what you’ve learned, you’ve identified a social cause that you believe fits nicely with your company’s ethical culture. For your last assignment, you will compile this information into a presentation and a supporting document that are appropriate to be presented to your company’s senior management.
You will write a 12- to 15-page final paper in a Microsoft Word document that discusses the information you have gathered this session. You will also create a 5- to 10-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that touches on the main points of your research.
Deliverable:
Part I
Review, revise, and organize research and writings from Week 1 to Week 5. In a 12- to 15-page document, submit the following:

Title page: name of your organization, name of cause or nonprofit partner, your name, date, course number, and instructor’s name.

Section 1:

Executive Summary: It is a short section of a larger document that provides an overview of the critical items covered in the full document. The purpose of the executive summary is to provide the reader with enough information to get him or her quickly acquainted with the salient information in the larger report. Review, revise, and summarize research and writings from Weeks 1 to 5 (see bulleted list below) in 1–2 pages.

Section 2:

Describe your chosen global, publicly traded organization (Week 1).
Discuss your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis. Be sure to discuss how the selection of your social cause supports strengths and opportunities of your organization while helping your organization to overcome its weaknesses and threats. (Much, but not all, of this information was prepared in Week 2.)
Describe the social cause and/or nonprofit partner and the ethical principles and frameworks used in making your selection. Include a discussion of the internal and the external impacts you expect to make with this choice (Week 3).
Discuss any ethical challenges this social cause or partnering with the chosen nonprofit might present to your employees (based upon Week 4 materials).
Discuss why it is important for your organization to actively participate in a CSR program and why it is important to promote a global citizenship effort (based upon Week 5 materials).

Part II
Prepare a 5- to 10-slide Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that highlights each of the five topics outlined above. You should use the notes section of each slide in the PowerPoint presentation to refer your audience for additional information in your paper.

Yahima & Group,
Part II & Response:  While both of us registered as being team leaders according to the Blake and Mouton Managerial Grid our personality types reflected a different perspective on how we both approach team leadership.  The types of personality will be different between most leaders and the same as other leaders.  Defining ones personality helps to determine the rational behind decision making and to understand the way a person acts the way they act (Gunawan, 2016).  These differences and likenesses do not necessarily mean that one personality is more suited to leadership over another but rather there are various approaches to being and effective team leader.  My personality identified that I was a ESTJ meaning I exhibited quite a few differences to your INFJ personality.  While I agree with my test I do sometimes feel that I slip in and out of being introverted and extroverted depending upon the situation thus affecting my specific approach or style of leadership from time to time.  When communicating a message with someone who is an INFJ I would take the approach of fully explaining my message and allowing the INFJ to process and analyze the presented message.  I would also be sensitive the feelings/intuitions expressed by the INFJ personality ensuring that the INFJ was heard and that their opinions on the message being delivered was received and is taken seriously.  This helps to present a message that is clear, validated and well received while giving time to analyze the presented message.  There are many different types of personalities to communicate with as a leader and interacting with all 16 types will inevitably occur through ones career.   The exact personality type with which one is interacting may not always be clear but it is important to foster relationships among one another in order to better understand the personality traits present among ones peers.
If undertaking the task of determining the reason for recent call outs I would organize a group meeting with all of other leaders facing this situation.  In this scenario it would be the group.  The information would be presented and I would allow the other leaders to express their opinion/feelings and/or present additional data to support the issue at hand.  I would then seek the advice of the group to collectively come up with effective solutions to the issue.  This allows all ideas to be presented and discussed before enacting on a plan of action.

Post:
A special populations that I may work with as a helping professional would be individuals with co-occurring disorders. I currently work with dually diagnosed autistic children. These children suffer for mental health disorders as well as being on the spectrum. My consumers are classified with such things as bipolar, schizophrenia, ODD and attachment disorders as well. Understanding how substance abuse can affect individuals with coexisting mental health illness and substance abuse has been difficult in the past. However, with revisions made to the TIP 9 assessment treating these individuals successfully has increased. The treatment improvement protocols (TIPs) focuses on what a helping professional needs to know and provides information in an accessible manner (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2005).
One challenge that you make face when dealing with this population would be the lack of services and treatment centers available. Although the services have increased in the last two decades; there are still some short comings. These challenges show a poorer outcome for these individuals because of the lack of targeted treatment efforts (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2005). Another challenge would be trying to understand what diagnosis they have and how to treat it. Especially if the client is reluctant to share that information.
Strategies to overcome this challenges would be get a better understanding of these mental health disorders as well as finding an adequate assessment to measure the addiction and the mental illness; and how they relate to each other. Another way would to try and gain access to previous treatment or medical history; only if the client gives permission. If one was not understanding enough in regards to mental health issues seeking help from other professionals could also help in the treatment.

Biopsychology Dicussion Question

450 word minimum
Take a look at this lecture by Karen L. Swartz, M.D. that was delivered during the John Hopkins 25th Annual Mood Disorders Research/Education Symposium entitled: Antidepressants & the Placebo Controversies

Use the APUS Online Library, look up information on a particular drug used to treat a neurological or psychiatric disorder.  If you are unable to find material in the Library on the particular drug you select, you may use other credible online sources.  Any additional sources used must be websites with scientifically grounded information.  Avoid .org sites which are frequently established by persons suffering from the same disorder and/or their family members and can be important sources of support for those persons but also contain unsubstantiated and personal perspective based information. Also avoid using pharmaceutical sites as  your only source of information; while they may look scientific, they also are maintained by companies in the business of manufacturing and selling medications.  WebMD is an example of a web source which contains scientifically grounded information about treatments for various disorders including neurological and psychiatric ones. The sources you use must be no more than 5 years old.
Report what you find for each of the categories below:
The class of the drug
The mechanism of action
Receptor sites the drug targets
The drug’s main affect
Unexpected effects and side effects and drug interactions
Non-FDA uses of the drug
Discuss with your classmates what was surprising to you as a psychology student and a consumer. What aspects of these drugs were comforting to you? What aspects did you find concerning? Why?The post Biopsychology Dicussion Question first appeared on Nursing School Essays.
