MLA Paper, 10 Pages in length

Requirements: 10-12 pages in MLA format concerning the relationship between gender and power in the play Lysistrata.

Interpretive Thesis: Females are portrayed in several different lights throughout Lysistrata. Aristophanes illustrates two distinctly different types of women; the authoritative and the subservient. Lysistrata herself breaks away from the traditional role of women during her time period, but at the same time she embodies many masculine characteristics in order to be a strong leader. By presenting readers with a strong lead female character, Aristophanes is able to show both sides of the female psyche.
