Considering the evolutionary leaps and technological advances we’ve seen and experienced, why does religion still matter in people’s lives?

I mean, religion has not cured any disease. It has not slowed down the progression of wanton violence. Religion has not solved racial tensions. Religion is divided among itself. It has not eradicated epidemics, pandemics, or poverty. Religion has yet to “fix” the depraved human heart.
