transformational leadership theory

1

What are the strengths and weakness of transformational leadership theory and leader-member theory (LMX)? How might your knowledge of the LMX theory help you to become a better leader?

2

How would you apply the transformational theory leader-member theory (LMX) to improve an organization’s performance? Discuss in the context of your own organization, an organization you have belonged to in the past, or another existing organization that would benefit from significant organizational improvement.

3
Select an individual that you believe exhibits authentic leadership. This individual can be historical or contemporary. Provide specific examples that support how this person exhibits authentic leadership. What is the role of authentic leadership in creating trust and followership in this example, and how can it improve organizations?

4
Christian servant leaders profess to serve those whom they lead through love and the moral obligation to promote the greater good of others. What leadership behaviors would you expect from a Christian servant leader and how might those behaviors differ from someone who is not a servant leader. Also, although servant leadership is often associated with the Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ, do you believe servant leadership is compatible with other religions or worldviews? Why or why not?

5
What are the strengths and weakness of adaptive leadership? What particular challenges might an adaptive leader encounter in encouraging their followers to solve their own problems and challenges?

6
How do you think individuals’ preconceived notions, prejudices, and their own interpretations of other cultures impact the workplace? How might you employ the psychodynamic approach to help the employees get along with each other and work better together?

Competency

Part 1

Competency
Formulate, express, and support individual perspectives on diverse works and issues.

For this assessment task, you are asked to act as a critic for one of the various subjects under the umbrella of the subject Humanities. Through a series of critiques, you will be demonstrating your background knowledge on these subjects and the themes studied in the Humanities. In general, a critic evaluates a work or piece based on a common language of a subject. For example, certain terminology is used in the film industry for aesthetic, whereas other terminology is used in architecture. Aside from a common language of art, each subject usually includes a history of influence-how a work was influenced by other works and how a work influence aspects of today’s art and culture. Critics use this common body of history and aesthetic to offer critiques, or judgements on the validity of the importance of aesthetic (it’s representation of beauty).

Please watch the video below (02:33 – 16:32) as a refresher on this deliverable’s content. The video will not tell you everything you need to know to pass this test-out, but it should serve as a refresher.

part 2

Deliverable 03 – Humanities (Test-Out Sophia Replacement)

Competency

Formulate, express, and support individual perspectives on diverse works and issues.

Instructions

You will act as a critic for some of the main subjects covered in the humanities. You will conduct a series of short, evaluative critiques of film, philosophy, literature, music, and myth. You will respond to five different prompts, and each response should include an analysis of the topics using terminology unique to that subject area and should include an evaluation as to why the topic stands the test of time. The five prompts are as follows:

  1. Choose a film and offer an analysis of why it is an important film, and discuss it in terms of film as art. Your response should be more than a summary of the film.
  2. Imagine you had known Plato and Aristotle and you had a conversation about how we fall in love. Provide an overview of how Plato would explain falling in love, and then provide an overview of how Aristotle might explain falling in love.
  3. Compare and contrast the two poems below:

LOVE’S INCONSISTENCY

I find no peace, and all my war is done;
I fear and hope, I burn and freeze likewise
I fly above the wind, yet cannot rise;
And nought I have, yet all the world I seize on;
That looseth, nor locketh, holdeth me in prison, And holds me not, yet can I ’scape no wise;
Nor lets me live, nor die, at my devise,
And yet of death it giveth none occasion.
Without eyes I see, and without tongue I plain;
I wish to perish, yet I ask for health;
I love another, and yet I hate myself;
I feed in sorrow, and laugh in all my pain;
Lo, thus displeaseth me both death and life,
And my delight is causer of my grief.

Petrarch

After great pain a formal feeling comes—
The nerves sit ceremonious like tombs;
The stiff Heart questions—was it He that bore?
And yesterday—or centuries before?

The feet mechanical go round
A wooden way
Of ground or air or ought
Regardless grown,
A quartz contentment like a stone.

This is the hour of lead
Remembered if outlived
As freezing persons recollect
The snow—
First chill, then stupor, then
The letting go

Emily Dickinson.

4. Compare and contrast these two pieces of music:
Beethoven’s Violin Romance No. 2
Scott Joplin’s Maple Leaf Rag

5. Explain in classical terms why a modern character is a hero. Choose from either Luke Skywalker, Indiana Jones, Bilbo Baggins, Harry Potter, Katniss Everdeen, or Ender Wiggins.

       Hernandez Family Assessment

Hernandez Family Assessment

Assessment is as essential to family therapy as it is to individual therapy. Although families often present with one person identified as the “problem,” the assessment process will help you better understand family roles and determine whether the identified problem client is in fact the root of the family’s issues. As you examine the Hernandez Family: Sessions 1-6 videos in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat the client family.

                                                             Learning Objectives

Students will:

· Assess client families presenting for psychotherapy

To prepare:

· Review this week’s Learning Resources and reflect on the insights they provide on family assessment.

· View the Hernandez Family: Sessions 1-6 videos, and consider how you might assess the family in the case study.

Note: For guidance on writing a comprehensive client assessment, refer to pages 137–142 of Wheeler (2014) in this week’s Learning Resources.

                                                                 The Assignment

Address in a comprehensive client assessment of the Hernandez family the following:

· Demographic information

· Presenting problem

· History or present illness

· Past psychiatric history

· Medical history

· Substance use history

· Developmental history

· Family psychiatric history

· Psychosocial history

· History of abuse and/or trauma

· Review of systems

· Physical assessment

· Mental status exam

· Differential diagnosis

· Case formulation

ethical dilemmas:

Instructions
Review the following ethical dilemmas:

  1. John Doe has decided to clone himself. He is sterile. He cannot find anyone to marry him. He wishes to have children. He knows that he will not be able to love a child that is adopted or not connected directly to him biologically. He will be making use of a new procedure that involves taking his skin cells to produce a twin. The twin starts out as an embryo and grows into a child. The child in this case will have the same genetic information as John Doe. John Doe and his child will be twins.
  2. Jane Doe is eighteen. For as long as she can remember she has been sexually attracted to other females. Her parents belong to a religion that has a religious text stating that God forbids one to be a lesbian. This religion goes on further to say that lesbians will be punished in the afterlife. Jane Doe is debating whether she should tell her parents about her sexual attraction. She has not yet decided if she should come out to her parents and live as a lesbian now that she is a legal adult.
  3. Joe and Mary are a couple. Before becoming sterile, they had a child. This child died of a rare disease. Joe and Mary miss their child terribly. They have heard that there is a new IVF procedure that can ensure that they can have another child. However, their religion forbids using IVF.
    Use the resources assigned for this week and additional research,

Instructions
Select two of the situations above and then address 2 of the following:

  1. What is the relation between ethics and religion? Formulate and investigate the relation.
  2. For each case, determine the ethical path of conduct. Then, determine what paths of conduct would be unethical
  3. For each case, what would an emotivism say to appraise what you determine is the ethical form of conduct?
  4. For each case, would a natural law ethicist agree with what you say is the ethical form of conduct? Why or why not?
  5. Articulate, explain, and evaluate in each case an approach that makes use of divine command ethics.

Health condition

Health conditions, including heart disease and respiratory infections, have no borders. What happens in one part of the world has ripple effects through the other parts, including the United States. Technology has created an even smaller world, with nurses in instant contact and eager to share information.

You and your nursing colleagues live and work around this shrinking professional world. Your nursing experience working with diverse populations presents a rich opportunity to share your international health perspectives. This exercise is a growth opportunity in terms of how we see ourselves, the world, and how we interact with our patients during the health interview and health assessment process.

In this week’s Discussion, your stories will illustrate relevant social and cultural differences among yourselves and your patients. The collective experience will expand your individual nursing knowledge; improve upon our cultural humility and perspectives, in order to foster social and culturally-sensitive health interviews and assessments. This, in turn, contributes to safer and higher quality outcomes for your patients. Consider how your sensitive care is expressed through choice of your words, maintaining a distance that is culturally appropriate, and utilizing other techniques to negotiate through established social and cultural values. This leads to patient trust and comfort and a respectful nurse-patient relationship.
