imago dei

Comment 1

The Christian concept of imago dei is described by Shelly & Miller (2006) as man being created in the image of God, granting dignity and honor to everyone while separating mankind from everything else on earth.

This is important to healthcare because human lives depend on healthcare.  By focusing the attention on preserving life and granting each person dignity, we value each human’s life over and above everything else on earth, as God intended.  While postmodernism would hold a humans life less valuable since that philosophy believes the humans are simply another organism on earth, with the same value as a rock (Shelly &, 2006).

This belief is relevant because if we are all viewed as imago dei, then there are moral consequences if we choose to treat humans as
equal to all other animals in creation.  As Shelly & Miller (2006) asserts, men may eat other animals in the world, but according to the Christian concept of imago dei, we were placed here as separate and superior beings and it is not appropriate to eat another human being, shoot a person for an illness or disability, and while we are free
to choose, it is our responsibility to treat the sick and dying with dignity and respect with hope for a positive outcome.

Comment 2

The Christian concept of imago Dei as explained by our text is that all humans are created in the image and likeness of god; because of this, human life is deemed valuable and special among all other life forms (Shelly & Miller, 2006). This is an important and basic concept that bares relevance to many aspects within humanity. In the context of healthcare, this is an especially crucial and fundamental understanding. Healthcare providers, caregivers, and all disciplines of the occupation should practice with this core understanding always in mind which transcends across religions and personal beliefs/opinions. Human life is a gift, and as such, each life is significant and meaningful, deserving of respect, empathy, kindness and dignity. A person’s worth and dignity is not determined by their health status, bodily functions or medical prognosis. Healthcare workers should always uphold this truth and honor a person’s right to this understanding. This should be a standard of all care, regardless of if the person’s medical decisions are not in opposition to the healthcare worker’s personal opinion or choice (Sevensky, n.d.).

Knee Injury Case Studies

Knee Injury Case Studies

A 15-year-old gymnast has noted knee pain that has become progressively worse during the past several months of intensive training for a statewide meet. Her physical examination indicated swelling in and around the left knee. She had some decreased range of motion and a clicking sound on flexion of the knee. The knee was otherwise stable.

Arthroscopy

Tear in posterior aspect of medial meniscus

Diagnostic Analysis

The radiographic studies of the long bones eliminated any possibility of fracture. Arthrocentesis indicated a bloody effusion, which was probably a result of trauma. The fibrin clot was further evidence of bleeding within the joint. Arthrography indicated a tear of the medial meniscus of the knee, a common injury for gymnasts. Arthroscopy corroborated that finding. Transarthroscopic medial meniscectomy was performed. Her postoperative course was uneventful.

Critical Thinking Questions

One of the potential complications of arthroscopy is infection. What signs and symptoms of joint infection would you emphasize in your patient teaching?
Why is glucose evaluated in the synovial fluid analysis?
What are special tests used to differentiate type of Tendon tears in the knee ? Explain
how they are performed (Always on boards)

trend/topic related to ADHD

For this assignment, write a 750-1,000-word commentary that addresses a trend/topic related to ADHD.

This means that your essay should review a single trend related to ADHD. For instance, you could analyze one of the following trends (you are not limited to this list; these are suggestions):

· Increase in ADHD Diagnoses

· Impact of ADHD on a Child’s Schooling

· Impact of New ADHD Treatments

· Hidden Dangers of ADHD Medications

· The Reasoning Behind ADHD Awareness Week

· ADHD and the Zombie Phenomenon

· ADHD Drug Overdoses

This essay is NOT a summary of several different elements of ADHD. Rather, it is an analysis of a single trend related to ADHD, including various elements of that single trend.

Your review should include at least five scholarly sources outside of class texts.

Directions

1. Label or Identify the Subject: Provide the name for the trend and provide some context or background for the subject.

2. Explain the Subject: Find a pattern of meaning in the trend (e.g., speculate as to causes and effects of an event, compare with a similar case, or offer an example).

3. Make a Judgment/Offer an Opinion: Evaluate the trend using third person; offer praise or critique the trend, offering evidence to support your claims.

Promoting Health Care Quality

Project: Promoting Health Care Quality

Project Overview

Complete instructions are provided in this week’s Learning Resources.

In this course, you develop a comprehensive Course Project: Promoting Health Care Quality. To initiate this project, this week you examine the systems and structures of an organization with which you are familiar. This analysis will serve as a foundation for developing a plan to address a quality improvement issue.

Section 1: Organizational Systems and Structures Evaluation

When a problem related to health care quality and patient safety arises, there can be an inclination to focus on a specific event rather than to examine the larger context surrounding it. Analyzing the systems and structures within an organization provides a foundation for generating a fuller understanding of how and why the event occurred and for developing strategies to address the underlying issues. Perhaps more importantly, such an analysis can be used to proactively identify potential challenges and improve organizational systems and structures in order to promote positive outcomes.

In the first section of your Course Project, you analyze the systems and structures of a health care organization with which you are familiar.

To prepare:

Identify a health care organization with which you are familiar; one that you will be able to sufficiently analyze to complete the full scope of the Course Project. (Refer to the Course Project Overview as needed.) This may be the same organization that you addressed in this week’s Discussion.

Select two or more of the following frameworks:

Learning organizations

Complex adaptive systems (CAS)

Clinical microsystems

Good to great

The 5 Ps

You may use the same frameworks that you addressed in this week’s Discussion.

Check below link

With these frameworks in mind, analyze the systems and structures of the organization. Be sure to research and consider:

Mission, vision, and values

Strategic plan, goals, and objectives, if possible

Key operational processes and patterns

Information technology use

Organizational priorities and investments, as indicated by financial data

As you continue your evaluation of a health care organization, it is essential to pay attention to culture. Organizational culture provides the context in which all interactions and processes occur, and is therefore central to any effort to enact change.

In addition, consider the ideas and information exchanged in this week’s Discussion. Continue to analyze essential elements of organizational culture and evaluate the influence of culture on the ability to achieve goals within your selected organization.

Use the below link also (https://www.homeworkmarket.com/content/nurs-6231-healthcare-systems-and-quality-outcomes-discussion-4-grading-rubic-and-media-attac)

Write a 3- to 5-page paper in which you:

Provide a description of the organization you selected

Present your analysis of the organization with attention to:

Its mission, vision, values

Strategic plan, goals, and objectives

Key operational processes and patterns

Information technology use

Organizational priorities and investments, as indicated by financial data

The essential elements of the organization’s culture

The influence of culture on meeting organizational goals

You will write a 3- to 5-page paper. Use the Week 3: Organizational Systems and Structures, Part 1 in the course Project Overview PDF for instructions.

Psychotherapy for Addictive Disorders

Psychotherapy for Addictive Disorders

“A long-standing debate has roiled over whether addicts have a choice over their behaviors. The disease creates distortions in thinking, feelings, and perceptions, which drive people to behave in ways that are not understandable to others around them. Simply put, addiction is not a choice. Addictive behaviors are a manifestation of the disease, not a cause.”

–Dr. Raju Hajela, former president of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine

A common misconception is that addiction is a choice, and addicts are often labeled as individuals who lack morals, willpower, or responsibility. However, addiction is a clinical disorder that must be treated with the support of a health care professional. Although many people who are exposed to potentially addictive substances and behaviors continue life unaltered by their experiences, some people are fueled by these experiences and spiral out of control. In your role as the psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, you must be prepared to not only work with these individuals who struggle with addiction, but also help them and their families overcome the social stigmas associated with addictive behavior.

This week, as you explore psychotherapy for addiction, you assess clients presenting with addictive disorders. You also examine therapies for treating these clients and consider potential outcomes. Finally, you develop diagnoses for clients receiving psychotherapy and consider legal and ethical implications of counseling these clients.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

· Develop diagnoses for clients receiving psychotherapy*

· Evaluate the efficacy of motivational interviewing techniques for clients*

· Analyze legal and ethical implications of counseling clients with psychiatric

disorders*

Select a client whom you observed or counseled this week. Then, address the

following in your Practicum Journal:

·  Describe the client (without violating HIPAA regulations) and identify any

pertinent history or medical information, including prescribed medications.

· Using the DSM-5, explain and justify your diagnosis for this client.

·  Explain whether motivational interviewing would be effective with this client.

Include expected outcomes based on this therapeutic approach. Support your

approach with evidence-based literature.

·  Explain any legal and/or ethical implications related to counseling this client.

·  Support your approach with evidence-based literature.

· NOTE: PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED Practicum Journal Template AND JOURNAL SAMPLE (TIME LOG & JOURNAL ENTRIES) FOR WRITING THIS ASSIGNMENT…..ALSO FOR THE TIME LOG AND JOURNAL ENTRIES, JUST MAKE UP A REASONABLE INFORMATION AND CLIENT INFORMATION IN MENTAL HEALTH NURSING.

culture and technology

Changes in culture and technology have resulted in patient populations that are often well informed and educated, even before consulting or considering a healthcare need delivered by a health professional. Fueled by this, health professionals are increasingly involving patients in treatment decisions. However, this often comes with challenges, as illnesses and treatments can become complex.

What has your experience been with patient involvement in treatment or healthcare decisions?

In this Discussion, you will share your experiences and consider the impact of patient involvement (or lack of involvement). You will also consider the use of a patient decision aid to inform best practices for patient care and healthcare decision making.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on a time when you experienced a patient being brought into (or not being brought into) a decision regarding their treatment plan.
  • Review the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute’s Decision Aids Inventory at https://decisionaid.ohri.ca/.
    • Choose “For Specific Conditions,” then Browse an alphabetical listing of decision aids by health topic.

NOTE: To ensure compliance with HIPAA rules, please DO NOT use the patient’s real name or any information that might identify the patient or organization/practice.

physician

Dr. Smith has a full morning of minor office surgeries scheduled for today. Sarah, his nurse, has set up the room and prepared the patient. Prior to starting, Dr. Smith requests anesthetic without epinephrine due to the location of the surgical site. Searching the drawers and supply closet, Sarah reports, “We don’t have any.”
Fortunately, Sarah was able to borrow a vial from the physician in an adjacent office suite. Investigation by the office manager reveals that the supply was not reordered when the previous stock was disposed of due to its expiration date. This disruption in supply chain management resulted in an inefficient use of physician time and an uncomfortable situation in the presence of a patient.
Create a 2-page executive summary explaining to your staff the significant of stocking, placing timely orders, and provide a step by step method on what to do in order to avoid this type of situation in Dr. Smith’s office.
Gather your research from at least 2 sources other than your textbook. Cite your sources using APA guidelines. All submitted work should be free of grammatical errors.
