Leadership Styles and Decision-Making

Assignment: Leadership Styles and Decision-Making

We have all been influenced by leaders at some point in our lives. Individuals make decisions in a way that achieves set goals. They demonstrate their leadership when they follow through on those decisions to ensure that they were the right decisions. Individuals show the way when they model to teams and others how to accomplish the tasks at hand. However, leaders vary greatly in their decision-making, in part because of their own particular leadership styles. Similar to emotional intelligence, it is important to be aware of your own leadership style as well as the leadership styles of effective healthcare leaders and managers and how those styles affect decision-making.

To prepare for this Assignment:

  • Consider the characteristics of leaders described in your Learning Resources.
  • Select two individuals from the Good Samaritan Hospital with different leadership styles.
  • Consider how the leadership styles of these individuals might have influenced their decision-making.
By Day 7

Write a 1- to 2-page paper that identifies the following:

  1. Explain the true value of leadership in decision-making.
  2. Describe one decision your selected leaders from Good Samaritan Hospital made or might have made. Then, describe their leadership styles and how these leadership styles might influence their decision-making.
  3. Using examples from your own personal work experience, how do employees perceive decision-making based on a healthcare manager’s leadership style?
  4. What leadership decision-making style do you believe is most effective in a healthcare setting of your choice?

Be sure to support your work with specific citations from this week’s Learning Resources and additional scholarly sources as appropriate. Refer to the Essential Guide to APA Style for Walden Students to ensure that your in-text citations and reference list are correct

Chapter 3, “Management and Motivation (pp. 49–76)

This chapter outlines the various theories and practices related to workforce motivation for healthcare managers. It explores who and what motivates employees intrinsically and extrinsically, as well as common misconceptions about motivation.

Chapter 4, “Organizational Behavior and Management Thinking” (pp. 77–105)

This chapter examines how management roles relate to organizational behavior and thinking. The author describes various types of leadership traits related to organizational behavior.
This chapter also explores decision-making. Decisions made in healthcare can mean life or death for patients. While not every decision is life altering, most decisions made by healthcare managers can impact the organization’s ability to provide care. In this chapter, the author introduces problem solving and decision-making from the role of the healthcare manager.

Chapter 13, “Teamwork” (pp. 363–396)

Various teams function within the healthcare setting. This chapter examines team leadership, the characteristics of effective teams, and common reasons for team failure.

Choosing a Theory or Model for Program Planning

Choosing a Theory or Model for Program Planning

Selecting an appropriate theory or model for program planning is an important part of the process. As you examine the theories and models presented in the Learning Resources, bear in mind that some theories/models may not be appropriate given the problem you have selected. How will you determine which one is most relevant for your problem and target population? You are encouraged to use this Discussion forum as a venue for deliberation with your colleagues.
To prepare:

  • Bring      to mind the problem you identified in Week 2.
  • Review      the information in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the various      theories and models that are used in program planning. Which one(s) do you      think might be appropriate for your problem? Why? Be prepared to support      your response.
  • What      field developed this theory or model? Examine the literature and consider      how it has been applied in fields other than nursing.

By tomorrow Monday 12/10/18 17:oo, write a 550 words essays in APA format with a minimum of 3 scholarly references, At least one of the references must come from the course textbook (see attached file). Include the headers as numbered below

Post a cohesive scholarly response that addresses the following:

1) Describe the theory or model most appropriate to your problem (Breast Cancer in African American Women in the USA). Justify the choice of your theory/model as it relates to your problem. (see attached file)

2) What field developed this theory or model? Briefly describe how it has been applied in fields other than nursing and explain how it has been appropriately applied within nursing. Provide at least one example from the literature to support your response.

Identifying Data

Follow the Soap Note Rubric as a guide:

Grading Rubric

Student______________________________________

This sheet is to help you understand what we are looking for, and what our margin remarks might be about on your write ups of patients. Since at all of the white-ups that you hand in are uniform, this represents what MUST be included in every write-up.

1)      Identifying Data (___5pts): The opening list of the note. It contains age, sex, race, marital status, etc. The patient complaint should be given in quotes. If the patient has more than one complaint, each complaint should be listed separately (1, 2, etc.) and each addressed in the subjective and under the appropriate number.

2)      Subjective Data (___30pts.): This is the historical part of the note. It contains the following:

a) Symptom analysis/HPI(Location, quality , quantity or severity, timing, setting, factors that make it better or worse, and associate manifestations.(10pts).

b) Review of systems of associated systems, reporting all pertinent positives and negatives (10pts).

c) Any PMH, family hx, social hx, allergies, medications related to the complaint/problem (10pts). If more than one chief complaint, each should be written u in this manner.

3)      Objective Data(__25pt.): Vital signs need to be present. Height and Weight should be included where appropriate.

a)      Appropriate systems are examined, listed in the note and consistent with those identified in 2b.(10pts).

b)      Pertinent positives and negatives must be documented for each relevant system.

c)        Any abnormalities must be fully described. Measure and record sizes of things (likes moles, scars). Avoid using “ok”, “clear”, “within normal limits”, positive/ negative, and normal/abnormal to describe things. (5pts).

4)      Assessment (___10pts.): Diagnoses should be clearly listed and worded appropriately.

5)      Plan (___15pts.): Be sure to include any teaching, health maintenance and counseling along with the pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures. If you have more than one diagnosis, it is helpful to have this section divided into separate numbered sections.

6)      Subjective/ Objective, Assessment and Management and Consistent (___10pts.): Does the note support the appropriate differential diagnosis process? Is there evidence that you know what systems and what symptoms go with which complaints? The assessment/diagnoses should be consistent with the subjective section and then the assessment and plan. The management should be consistent with the assessment/ diagnoses identified.

7)      Clarity of the Write-up(___5pts.): Is it literate, organized and complete?

Use APA format and must include minimum of 2 Scholarly Citations.

Soap notes will be uploaded to Moodle and put through TURN-It-In (anti-Plagiarism program)

Turn it in Score must be less than 50% or will not be accepted for credit, must be your own work and in your own words. You can resubmit, Final submission will be accepted if less than 50%. Annotated Bibliography

Annotated Bibliography Instructions:

An important part of the concept analysis is review of articles related to the concept you will focus on. An annotated bibliography is a method you can use to summarize and assess the articles that you plan to use for your concept analysis paper.

Grief is the concept of focus!

– You are required to write an annotated bibliography of two articles related to grief. One article must have an empirical referent of grief. For example, your required reading, Martincekova, L. & Klatt, J. (2017). Mothers’ grief, forgiveness, and posttraumatic growth after the loss of a childOMEGA-Journal of Death and Dying,75(3), 248-265. contains three empirical referents—the Texas Revised Inventory of Grief, the Enright Forgiveness Inventory, and the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory.

Paper Instructions:

1. You will write an annotated bibliography (summary and assessment) of two articles related to the concept of grief. The annotated bibliography of each article should be two to three paragraphs long. The Purdue OWL Annotated Bibliographies website contains a useful guide to writing annotated bibliographies. The Purdue OWL Annotated Bibliographies Samples provides annotated bibliography examples. You should follow these suggestions related to summarizing and assessing articles:

Summarize: Some annotations merely summarize the source. What are the main arguments? What is the point of this book or article? What topics are covered? If someone asked what this article/book is about, what would you say? The length of your annotations will determine how the degree of detail of your summary.

Assess: Is it a useful source? (Source: Purdue OWL: Annotated Bibliographies, retrieved from https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writing/common_writing_assignments/annotated_bibliographies/)

2. You need to write your annotated bibliography in your own words. Do not use the abstract of an article as your annotated bibliography.

3. The articles you select must be at a graduate level. They must be from academic/professional level journals. You cannot use articles from introductory nursing journals (e.g., Registered Nurse Journal or American Journal of Nursing).

4. You are required to write your annotated bibliography according to APA Manual 6th edition guidelines. The Owl Purdue Annotated Bibliographies Samples website includes an example of an annotated bibliography for a book, Ehrenreich, B. (2001). Nickel and dimed: On (not) getting by in America. New York: Henry Holt.

Please refer to the Annotated Bibliography Rubric for details on how this activity will be graded.

healthcare organization’s website

March 21, 2010, was not Evidence Based Practice’s date of birth, but it may be the date the approach “grew up” and left home to take on the world. When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it came with a requirement of empirical evidence. Research on EBP increased significantly. Application of EBP spread to allied health professions, education, healthcare technology, and more. Health organizations began to adopt and promote EBP.In this Discussion, you will consider this adoption. You will examine healthcare organization websites and analyze to what extent these organizations use EBP.To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the definition and goal of EBP.
  • Choose a professional healthcare organization’s website (e.g., a reimbursing body, an accredited body, or a national initiative).
  • Explore the website to determine where and to what extent EBP is evident.

By Day 3 of Week 1

Post a description of the healthcare organization website you reviewed. Describe where, if at all, Evidence Based Practice (EBP) appears (e.g., the mission, vision, philosophy, and/or goals of the healthcare organization, or in other locations on the website). Then, explain whether this healthcare organization’s work is grounded in EBP and why or why not. Finally, explain whether the information you discovered on the healthcare organization’s website has changed your perception of the healthcare organization. Be specific and provide examples.
