Needs Assessment

When you are engaged in program planning, a needs assessment helps to determine the actuality and details of a specific problem. It also addresses how the target population views the problem—which is critical since their perspective and motivation to change are essential for the success of the program.
In this week’s video, the necessity of appraising a community’s assets as well as its challenges is evident as Dr. Donna Shambley-Ebron and Dr. Rebecca Lee discuss needs assessments. What additional insights have you gleaned from the Learning Resources that you intend to apply to your program?
For this Discussion, you develop a framework for completing a needs assessment for your program. To do this effectively, it is essential to begin with the program and the population you have identified and then develop an appropriate approach for conducting a needs assessment. This also leads to consideration of the types of data needed and the data collection methods to be used.

To prepare:

  • Consider      aspects of your problem and population (breast cancer in African American women      in the USA) as you review the information on needs assessment presented in      the Learning Resources.
  • How      would you conduct a needs assessment? What considerations would influence      your decision making about this process?
  • What      would be the most efficient and effective methods for collecting data?      What challenges could be encountered?

By tomorrow Wednesday 12/19/18 2 pm, write a minimum of 550 words essay in APA format with at least 3 references from the list of required readings below. Include all headers as numbered below:

Post a cohesive scholarly response that addresses the following:

1) Discuss how you would conduct a needs assessment for your selected problem and the target population. Why is this approach appropriate for the problem you have identified? Support your response with evidence from the literature.

2) Describe your proposed data collection methods and evaluate any challenges you might encounter.

Chapter 1 notes the importance of looking not just at needs but also the assets associated with the target population and environment; that is, assessing what needs to be addressed given the assets that are present.

In Chapter 3, the authors examine data collection, a key element of needs assessments. They also indicate that it is wise to plan ahead and consider data collection strategies for evaluation at the same time.

In this Discussion, you and your colleagues identify a theory or model for evaluation and establish appropriate forms of evaluation for your programs.
As noted in Week 3 of this course, a particular theory or model is not necessarily appropriate for every program. It is important to consider the specifics of the problem and the target population when making that selection. This is important to keep in mind, also, as you examine theories and models related to program evaluation. In this instance, various facets of the program such as goals and objectives should be taken into consideration. Once selected, theory can provide a framework for evaluation.
In addition, there are distinct purposes for the elements of assessment addressed this week: performance measurement, monitoring, and summative evaluation. How do you foresee these being applied in your program?

To prepare:

  • Review this week’s Learning      Resources. You may wish to review the Week 3 Learning Resources as well,      which may be pertinent.
  • Consider the various facets of your      program plan, such as your program goal(s) and objectives.
  • Choose the evaluation theory or model      (from nursing or related fields) most appropriate to your program. Be      prepared to justify the choice of your model as it relates to your      program.
  • Based on the program you have      developed:
    • Create a time line for when to do       measuring, when to implement monitoring, and when to evaluate program       outcomes.
    • What types of data would you need to       collect in order to measure performance, monitor the progress of the       program, and assess the program outcomes?

1) Identify an evaluation theory or model that is most appropriate to support your program plan. How do licensure, accreditation, certification, and education (LACE) considerations differ for all four APN clinical roles (CNP, CNW, CRNA, CNS) for these three states: California, Washington, and Illinois? Provide evidence for your response.

Presentation Guidelines :

The presentation should include a PowerPoint presentation which will be recorded via Kaltura.
Students should create the PowerPoint presentation offline and then open it for use during the Kaltura recording.
Students must practice/recording the presentation more than once to allow for practice and mastery of the content and presentation style. The final presentation of the Kaltura recording should be submitted only. Do not use PowerPoint to record the presentation.
Students should review their presentation for clarity in audio and sound as well as clarity in the information presented. Students should be professionally dressed in business casual attire for the presentation with/without a lab coat. Scrubs, sweats, denim, yoga pants, and athletic wear are not considered business casual. Student’s face must be visible via the webcam during the presentation.
The presentation should be approximately 15-20 minutes in recorded length. It will vary from student to student but should adequately address the material.
The presentation should contain appropriate scholarly evidence to support the information presented per APA format. Use in-text references and have a reference list at the end of the presentation.
PowerPoint slides should be used as cues to topics and key concepts without lengthy sentences and paragraphs- reading information from slides is not professional and therefore not acceptable.
A professional presentation includes an introduction both of yourself and of the topic, the touch points of information you’re going to discuss as well as a conclusion.
Students may use any type and size font that works for their presentation. Slides should include bullet points you intend to cover, 4-5 bullet points per slide. The bullet points should be expanded upon with oral information. Direct quotes and paragraphs are discouraged. Speaker notes may be included in the presentation or used by the presenter as a side-reference.
The student’s oral presentation should demonstrate a clear understanding of all concepts along with specific examples to represent concepts.
