Leadership and Vocation – Data-Driven Decision Making: Incorporating the Evidence

Grand Canyon University

Explore the technology systems offered by Nanthealth, a provider of “telehealth” and health management services via the following link:

http://nanthealth.com/

Prepare a brief (8-10 slides) PowerPoint presentation in which you do the following:

1.Identify at least two technology innovations to connect patients, providers, and insurers across the care continuum.
2.Describe how the technologies work to provide patients and providers with data necessary for health care decision making.
3.Discuss how the real-time data encourages outcome-focused planning.
4.Predict what impact the technology will have on future health care delivery. Provide rationale and examples.

Presentations must include speakers’ notes on each slide, as well as references for the presentation. A minimum of three academic references from credible sources are required for this assignment. The slide count (8-10 slides) does not include the introduction and References slide(s).

Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

Organizational Culture

Throughout this course you will be developing a formal, evidence-based practice proposal.

The proposal is the plan for an evidence-based practice project designed to address a problem, issue, or concern in the professional work setting. Although several types of evidence can be used to support a proposed solution, a sufficient and compelling base of support from valid research studies is required as the major component of that evidence. Proposals are submitted in a format suitable for obtaining formal approval in the work setting. Proposals will vary in length depending upon the problem or issue addressed; they can be between 3,500 and 5,000 words. The cover sheet, abstract, references page, and appendices are not included in the word limit.

Section headings and letters for each section component are required. Responses are addressed in narrative form in relation to that number. Evaluation of the proposal in all sections is based upon the extent to which the depth of content reflects graduate-level critical-thinking skills.

This project contains seven formal sections:

  1. Section A: Organizational Culture and Readiness Assessment
  2. Section B: Problem Description
  3. Section C: Literature Support
  4. Section D: Solution Description
  5. Section E: Change Model
  6. Section F: Implementation Plan
  7. Section G: Evaluation of Process

Each section (A-G) will be submitted as separate assignments so your instructor can provide feedback (refer to applicable modules for further descriptions of each section).

The final paper will consist of the completed project (with revisions to all sections), title page, abstract, reference list, and appendices. Appendices will include a conceptual model for the project, handouts, data and evaluation collection tools, a budget, a timeline, resource lists, and approval forms.

Use the “NUR-699 EBP Implementation Plan Guide” and “NUR-699 Evidence-Based Practice Project Student Example” to assist you. Also refer to “NUR-699 Evidence-Based Practice Project Proposal Format.”

Summary: The purpose of the weekly reflective journal exercises is to allow for analysis, synthesis and evaluation of nursing theory using guided questions. Reflection has been referred to as a process that happens internally, privately or in isolation (Hill & Watson, 2011). Also a useful definition of reflection has been referred to as the examination of an issue of concern, as a consequence of experience, creating clarity and meaning in terms of self, and which results in a change of perspective ( Boyd & Fales, 1983).

Directions: Complete the Reflective Journal questions presented in your Lincoln (Weeks 1-6) and Dayer-Berenson (Weeks 6-8) text as defined in the course outline. Post the responses to the questions in the D2L dropbox. The assignment in due on Monday by 11:59 PM PST

Nursing Informatics Pioneers

Application 1: Nursing Informatics Pioneers

One of the major drivers in recent health care reform legislation is the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act’s (ARRA) HiTech Incentive. This act, passed in 2009, earmarked $22 billion for the adoption of electronic health records (EHRs), with a goal of 100% adoption in all practice settings by the year 2014. The HiTech Act provides an example of the pivotal role that health information technology plays in the delivery of quality health care services. Yet, health information technology is a relatively new field. This Application Assignment provides an opportunity for you to examine the contributions of pioneers in this arena and consider how their contributions have influenced health informatics and nursing practice today.

To prepare:

  • Visit the AMIA Video Library 1: Nursing Informatics Pioneers webpage listed in the Learning Resources.
  • Review the biographies and video presentations of pioneers who are of interest to you, or may hold a position that you aspire to achieve.
  • Select two nursing informatics pioneers and conduct further research on their contributions.
  • Consider how their contributions have influenced health information technology and nursing practice today.

By Thursday 09/07/17, Write a scholarly 3- to 4-page paper comparing two nursing informatics pioneers in APA format with a minimum of 4 references from the list below which include the level one headings as numbered below:

1)     What are the professional accomplishments of each individual?

2)     How have their contributions influenced nursing practice?

3)     How have their contributions shaped the field of nursing informatics?

4)     What lessons can you take away from their experiences?

5)     What skills or ideas demonstrated by these leaders might you apply to your professional practice?

urgent care clinic

A 21-year old female (A.M) presents to the urgent care clinic with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and a fever for 3 days. She states that she has Type I diabetes and has not been managing her blood sugars since she’s been ill and unable to keep any food down. She’s only tolerated sips of water and juices. Since she’s also been unable to eat, she hasn’t taken any insulin as directed. While helping A.M. from the lobby to the examining room you note that she’s unsteady, note that her skin in warm and flushed and that she’s drowsy. You also note that she’s breathing rapidly and smell a slight sweet/fruity odor. A.M. has a challenge answering questions but keeps asking for water to drink.

You get more information from A.M. and learn

She had some readings on her glucometer which were reading ‘high’
She vomits almost every time she takes in fluid
She hasn’t voided for a day but voided a great deal the day before
She’s been sleeping long hours and finally woke up this morning and decided to seek care
Current labs and vital signs:

What is the pathophysiology for the condition you believe A.M. has?
Relate the etiology and clinical manifestations for the condition you identified for A.M.
The practitioner at the urgent care facility makes the decision that A.M. needs to go to the hospital by ambulance. Once at the Emergency Department (ED), the ED physician orders these items:

1000 ml Lactated Ringer’s (LR) IV stat
36 units NPH (Humulin N) and 20 units regular (Humulin R) insulin SQ now
CBC with differential; CMP: blood cultures X2 sites; clean-catch urine for UA and C&S; stool for ova and parasites; Clostridium difficile toxin, and C&S; serum lactate; ketone; osmolality; ABGs on room air
1800 calorie, carbohydrate controlled diet
Bed rest
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 650 mg orally Q4 hrs PRN
Furosemide (Lasix) 60 mg IV push now
Urinary output every hour
VS every shift
The orders above — which are questionable related to her condition and which are appropriate?

What are the expected treatments for this condition?
Instructions:

Summarize the questions above and formulate what may be happening with A.M. and how you would improve her condition.

Use two evidence-based articles from peer-reviewed journals or scholarly sources to support your findings. Be sure to cite your sources in-text and on a References page using APA format. http://rasmussen.libanswers.com/faq/208365
