NR 505 Advance Research Method: Evidence-based Practice

(Chamberlain College – Spring 2016)

Week 2 TD1 – Purposes of research

In Week 1, we identified the priority issues you noted in Ironridge with a short reason why. This week the instructor will divide the class into four (4) collaboration committees so that each committee can discuss a different top priority issue from Week 1 that the instructor has identified. THIS IS NOT A GROUP PROJECT OR GROUP ASSIGNMENT. Each student will be graded individually based on their performance. Since we usually participate in collaborative committees in the practice setting to discuss priority issue, this format will allow our class to discuss four priority issues within the same discussion board.

Each student will need to post twice (once by Wednesday deadline at 11:59 p.m. MT and a peer response to someone in your collaborative committee).  In your collaborative committee, discuss what information you will need to know about the issue? What types of research would be most useful (descriptive, explanatory, predictive, prescriptive)? What databases are the most helpful? Please place all committee discussion in the discussion thread forum so everyone can benefit from the discussion.

Week 2 TD 2 – Theory and Variables

Review the differences in descriptive, explanatory, predictive, and prescriptive studies and select one of the predictive or prescriptive articles you find. What are the independent variables (IV), dependent variables (DV), and mediating variables (MVs) you find in the article? How do determining IVs, DVs, and MVs help you discern the theory tested in the research? In your particular article, what risk factors are identified or what recommendations are provided?

culture and environment of safety

Provide your answers to the following questions in a 2-page paper. Use APA Editorial Format for all citations and references used.

  1. What should the “culture and environment of safety” look like when preparing and administering medications?
  2. Discuss a common breach of medication administration.
  3. Identify three (3) factors that lead to errors in documentation related to medication administration.
  4. What can I do to prevent medication errors?

Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

This has to 350 words not counting the title page and references. Only use scholar authors. Please see the attachment for some reference that you can use.

Discussion: Professional Nursing and State-Level Regulations

Boards of Nursing (BONs) exist in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands. Similar entities may also exist for different regions. The mission of BONs is the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice. BONs put into practice state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, lay out the requirements for licensure and define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region.

It can be a valuable exercise to compare regulations among various state/regional boards of nursing. Doing so can help share insights that could be useful should there be future changes in a state/region. In addition, nurses may find the need to be licensed in multiple states or regions.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Resources and reflect on the mission of state/regional boards of nursing as the protection of the public through the regulation of nursing practice.
  • Consider how key regulations may impact nursing practice.
  • Review key regulations for nursing practice of your state’s/region’s board of nursing and those of at least one other state/region and select at least two APRN regulations to focus on for this Discussion..

By Day 3 of Week 5

Post a comparison of at least two APRN board of nursing regulations in your state/region with those of at least one other state/region. Describe how they may differ. Be specific and provide examples. Then, explain how the regulations you selected may apply to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who have legal authority to practice within the full scope of their education and experience. Provide at least one example of how APRNs may adhere to the two regulations you selected.

 Adolescent pregnancy

Adolescent pregnancy is viewed as a high-risk situation because it poses serious health risks for the mother and the baby. Describe various risk factors or precursors to adolescent pregnancy. Research community and state resources devoted in adolescent pregnancy and describe at least two of these resources. Research the teen pregnancy rates for the last 10 years for your state and community. Has this rate increased or decreased? Discuss possible reasons for an increase or decrease.

Individual Success Plan

Planning is the key to successful completion of this course and program-related objectives. The Individual Success Plan (ISP) assignment requires early collaboration with the course faculty and your course preceptor. Students must establish a plan for successful completion of

  1. The required 50 community direct clinical practice experience hours, 50 leadership direct clinical practice hours, and 25 indirect clinical experience hours.
  2. Completion of work associated with program competencies.
  3. Work associated with completion of the student’s capstone project change proposal.

Students will use the “Individual Success Plan” to develop an individual plan for completing practice hours and course objectives. As a part of this process, students will identify the number of hours set aside to meet course goals.

Student expectations and instructions for completing the ISP document are provided in the “Individual Success Plan” resource, located in the Study Materials and in the assignment instructions.

Students should apply concepts from prior courses to critically examine and improve their current practice. Students are expected to integrate scholarly readings to develop case reports that demonstrate increasingly complex and proficient practice.

After the ISP has been developed by the student and approved by the course faculty, students will initiate a preconference with the faculty and preceptor to review the ISP

  1. Provide a concise introduction for your posting.
  2. Identify the stakeholders who are impacted by the change at the micro-, meso-, and macro-levels, and discuss how you will engage those stakeholders in the change process.
  3. Describe two supportive factors within the system that will facilitate your recommended change.
  4. Provide an example of one barrier that may occur that would impede your recommended change.
  5. Explain one leadership strategy to address or resolve the barrier, and include your rationale.
  6. Recommend one leadership strategy to sustain the change within the context of a complex system, and explain your rationale.
  7. Conclude with a succinct synopsis of key points and concise self-reflection of how this topic contributes to your growth as a future leader in the chosen specialty track.

Please note that the requirements for the Peer Engagement Forum are different from what you are accustomed to in the traditional discussion boards in your previous classes. Refer to the assignment guideline and rubric listed below for specific requirements regarding expectations for postings within the peer engagement forum.

Instructors reserve the right to alter assigned peer engagement groups to maximize the student experience and course outcomes.
