lead poisoning

You are a public health scientist and informatician assigned to lead a team of environmental specialists investigating an outbreak of lead poisoning in a small community. The suspicion is that the lead poisoning has been caused by pollution generated by a large commercial plant that produces paints under a federal contract. The community water sources have been contaminated with the plant waste. Your assigned task is to organize your team and lead a surveillance investigation. You must meet with the community’s elected leaders to discuss the outbreak, present preliminary outbreak data, and explain how your team will proceed with its investigation (O’Carroll, Yasnoff, Ward, & Ripp, 2010).

You have chosen the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which is used in the CDC’S Epi Info™ application to understand, question, interpret, and visualize data.

As the team leader and primary informatician, explain the data collection procedures, which you will instruct the team to use to investigate the outbreak. Why might you choose to use the CDC’s Epi Info™ and its GIS for the outbreak analyses and report? From your readings on theory and strategy-based communication principles, describe what approach you will use to present likely outcomes, and to best answer questions posed by the community leaders. Assume the questions posed will inquire about the community and individual factors affected by the information outcomes.

Ambulatory Surgery center

You just started working as a Health Service Manager within one of the following health care entities  First, (A) choose a health entity below to discuss the questions that follow:

  1. Ambulatory Surgery center
  2. Pharmacy
  3. Physician’s Office
  4. Cosmetic Surgery Center
  5. Laser Eye Center
  6. Dental Office

(B) Your boss has asked you to write a business memo  (not just a standard essay), addressed to your boss (assume that’s your Professor) detailing how the demand for your products or services is impacted by various economic factors.  In writing your business memo, use the regular business memo format (with the usual To, From, Date, Subject entries) be sure to include your name, and identify the health care entity you chose above, in the subject line. In order for your boss to easily review your memo, please include section headers to correspond to the questions below.

Answer the following questions relying primarily on the course readings and other resource material presented in this class (do not use or cite any other sources).

  1. Describe a product or service your company provides to your patients
  2. Evaluate the demand curve for your product and the relationship between the price of your service/product and the quantity demanded.

In this evaluation, be sure to identify:

  • whether demand is sensitive (e.g. elastic) or less sensitive (e.g. inelastic) to changes in the price.
  • evaluate why this elasticity of demand relationship might occur.
  • include a discussion of how the existence of health insurance would impact the elasticity of demand.
  1. Define “substitute” goods and identify potential substitutes for your product/service. Evaluate how the existence of such substitutes may impact the demand for your product/service.
  2. Define “complement” goods and identify potential complements for your product/service. Evaluate how does the existence of such complement goods may impact the demand for your product/service.
  3. Identify and discuss at least two economic factors that might lead to a shift in the demand curve for your product/service?

Apply the APA style format as you learned in HMGT 300. The assignment rubrics are the same as those used for Assignment 1.

Use of Psychosocial Theories in Nursing

Use of Psychosocial Theories in Nursing

For this Discussion, you will explore how social and behavioral theories apply in a clinical setting by analyzing a case study.

To prepare:

With information from this week’s Learning Resources in mind, reflect on the influence of sociological and behavioral factors on health.

Read the case study of the woman admitted for a mastectomy presented on page 328, #3 of the course text Theoretical Basis for Nursing. Consider which concepts from sociological and/or behavioral theories could be used in nursing practice for addressing the patient’s health care needs. Conduct additional research as necessary using credible websites and the Walden library. Also consider how these theories are used in your own clinical practice.

Write 2 pages on the following:

1) What concepts from the various theories could be used in planning the 65-year-old woman’s care?

2) How might her care be changed if the woman were 25 years old or 45 years old?

3) How have social psychology theories been used in promoting breast cancer awareness? Provide at least one example to support your response.

4) How have social psychology theories been used in your clinical practice area? Provide at least one example to support your response.

Article Critique

Assignment 1: Article Critique

DNP graduates are expected to apply research findings and integrate nursing science into evidence-based practice. To develop your ability to engage in this high level of nursing practice, you will analyze the strengths and weaknesses of a research study over the next several weeks using the concepts presented throughout Weeks 1 through 9 of the course. Your final analysis will be a 5- to 7-page paper in APA format, that includes the following:

1) Write an introduction ending with a purpose statement (e.g. “the purpose of this study is…).

2) Provide a two paragraph overviews of the study.

3)  Identify three strengths of the study and support your selection (i.e. why is this a

strength)

4)  Identify three weaknesses of the study and support your selection (i.e. why is this a

weakness)

Note: The strengths and weaknesses should be in relation to:

· Design

· Sampling

· Data collection

· Statistical analysis

· Results and discussion.

5)  Propose changes to improve the quality of the study capitalizing on the strengths and

6) improving on the weaknesses you identified in the study.

7)  Summarize the implications for nursing practice.

8) Write a conclusion for your paper

The purpose of the analysis is to help you develop a deeper understanding of the research process, to inspire you to think critically and deeply about research on a specific topic, and to strengthen your ability to integrate research findings into evidence-based nursing practice. This assignment also gives you practice in analyzing the research literature, which will support you when you begin your DNP project.

Due Wednesday October 25, 2017 before midnight!

Writing (5 points): Up to 5 points (20%) may be deducted for grammar and APA style errors.

To prepare for this week’s assignment complete the following:

  • Select      one of the four research articles cited in this week’s required readings (SEE ATTACHED PDF FILE).
  • Review      the various quantitative research designs presented in the textbook      readings and research articles and discussed in the “Musings: Aligning      Research Question and Methodology” media.
  • Consider      the research design used in your selected article. Ask yourself the      following questions. Is the design appropriate for the study? Would a      different design provide better results?
