Mental Health Concern

Now, it’s time to turn in your semester project. Remember your project should include the following:

  • * A Mental Health Concern – and the Patient or Community – for your project.
  • * A brief history of the patient including diagnoses and medications – or a brief description of the community issue.
  • * Any substance abuse, addiction or violence issues surrounding this mental health problem. Describe the attempted interventions that have been made for your patient or community, and identify what has been successful and what has not. Submit a rough draft of information gathered so far.
  • * Describe your thoughts regarding your patient’s or community’s mental health issue. Are there any cognitive concerns? Think about interventions that may be helpful. Include sources for evidence-based practice.
  • * List appropriate nursing interventions for your chosen patient or community. How will you evaluate effectiveness? Include an evaluation tool or rubric.
  • * Complete your Semester Project by identifying mental health resources that can be used for your chosen patient or community. Finish with an educational tool for your patient or community.

e diagnosis and prescription of treatment

At least once a year, the media report on a seemingly healthy teenage athlete collapsing during a sports game and dying of heart complications. These incidents continue to outline the importance of physical exams and health screenings for teenagers, especially those who play sports. During these health screenings, examiners check for cardiovascular alterations such as heart murmurs because they can be a sign of an underlying heart disorder. Since many heart alterations rarely have symptoms, they are easy to miss if health professionals are not specifically looking for them. Once cardiovascular alterations are identified in patients, it is important to refer them to specialists who can further investigate the cause.

Consider the following scenario:

A 16-year-old male presents for a sports participation examination. He has no significant medical history and no family history suggestive of risk for premature cardiac death. The patient is examined while sitting slightly recumbent on the exam table and the advanced practice nurse appreciates a grade II/VI systolic murmur heard loudest at the apex of the heart. Other physical findings are within normal limits, the patient denies any cardiovascular symptoms, and a neuromuscular examination is within normal limits. He is cleared with no activity restriction. Later in the season he collapses on the field and dies.

To Prepare

  • Review the scenario provided, as well as Chapter 25 in the Huether and McCance text. Consider how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment for the patient.
  • Select one of the following patient factors: genetics, ethnicity, or behavior. Reflect on how the factor you selected might impact diagnosis and prescription of treatment for the patient in the scenario.

Post a description of how you would diagnose and prescribe treatment for the patient in the scenario. Then explain how the factor you selected might impact the diagnosis and prescription of treatment for that patient.

Phoenix Boutique Hotel Group

Phoenix Boutique Hotel Group

Phoenix Boutique Hotel Group (PBHG) was founded in 2007 by Bree Bristowe. Having worked for several luxury resorts, Bristowe decided to pursue her dream of owning and operating a boutique hotel. Her hotel, which she called PHX, was located in an area that included several high-end resorts and business hotels. PHX filled a niche market for “modern travelers looking for excellent service and contemporary design without the frills.” Since opening PHX, Bristowe has invested, purchased, or renovated three other small hotels in the Phoenix metropolitan area: Canyon Inn PHX, PHX B&B, and The PHX Bungalows.

One of the customer service enhancements Bristowe has implemented is a centralized, toll-free reservation system. Although many customers book specific hotels online, the phone reservation system enables PBHG to find the best reservation match at all properties. It has been an excellent option for those customers who have preferences regarding the type of room, amenity options, and the best price across the four hotel locations.

Currently, three agents are on staff for the 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. call shift. The time between calls during this shift is represented in Table 1. The time to process reservation requests during this shift is in Table 2.

Bristowe wants to ensure customers are not on hold for longer than 2 minutes. She is debating hiring additional staff for this shift based on the available data. Additionally, Bristowe and PBHG will soon be featured in a national travel magazine with a circulation of over a million subscriptions. Bristowe is worried that the current operators may not be able to handle the increase in reservations. The projected increase for call distribution is represented in Table 3.

Disaster Response Plan

Disaster Response Plan

For this assignment you will be developing a disaster plan to address a hypothetical disaster that could plausibly strike the community that you observed for your Windshield Survey.

A disaster can come in many forms. We might tend to associate disasters with mass natural disaster, like Hurricane Katrina or the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan. However, disasters also include relatively small man-made disasters, such as a fire in an apartment building or a gas leak in a factory (Maurer & Smith, 2013).

You will also be asked to select one of the articles from the list below that addresses a response to a disaster, or provides guidelines for creating a disaster response plan. You will briefly evaluate the article’s disaster response practices and also explain aspects for the article’s disaster response that would be appropriate to incorporate into your plan, as well as aspects that would not be feasible to incorporate. By evaluating responses to disasters in communities outside of your own, you will be able to bring in global perspectives as well as gain a deeper understanding of aspects of disaster response plans that are universal, as well as aspects that are only primarily applicable to specific communities.

Choose one of the following articles (see the Resources area for links to these articles):

•Almutairi and Rondney’s 2013 article, “Critical Cultural Competence for Culturally Diverse Workforces: Toward Equitable and Peaceful Health Care,” from Advances in Nursing Science, volume 36, issue 3, pages 200–212.

•ÖztekÄ°n, et al.’s 2014 article, “Educational Needs Concerning Disaster Preparedness and Response: A Comparison of Undergraduate Nursing Students From Istanbul, Turkey, and Miyazaki, Japan,” from Japan Journal of Nursing Science, volume 11, issue 2, pages 94–101. •Yamashita & Kudo’s 2014 article, “How Should We Prepare Differently for the Next Disaster?” from Nursing and Health Sciences, volume 16, issue 1, pages 56–59.

•Zaré, et al.’s 2012 article, “Crisis Management of Tohoku; Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, 11 March 2011,” from Iranian Journal of Public Health, volume 41, issue 6, pages 12–20.

Your plan should address and include the following:

Section 1: Article Evaluation (1–2 pages)

•An evaluation of the disaster response presented in the article you selected from the provided list.

•An explanation of aspects of the article’s disaster response that you plan on incorporating into your own Disaster Response Plan. Please include your rationale for why you are choosing to incorporate these aspects into your plan.

•An explanation of aspects of the article’s disaster response that would not be appropriate or plausible to include in your disaster response plan. Please include your rationale for why these aspects would not be appropriate or plausible to incorporate these aspects into your plan.

Section 2: Community Disaster Response Plan (5–7 pages)

•Describe the hypothetical disaster for your surveyed community that your plan will be addressing. Be sure to include details such as:

◦Scope of the disaster.

◦Intensity of the disaster.

◾Effects on the community environment as a result of the disaster.

◾Immediate health impacts on people in the community.

◾Medium and long-term health impacts on people in the community.

•Communication procedures: When and how should public health department nurses communicate with each other in a disaster? When should they communicate with other first responders, law enforcement, and other resources/responders in a disaster?

•Communication procedures for coordinating care with hospitals and other resources.

◦Note: During disasters, acute care hospitals become overwhelmed—less critical patients may be treated at field hospitals, leaving room for critical patients in functioning acute care facilities. Identify who will communicate with whom.

•The triage system you would use for assessing victims.

•How will you address the needs of vulnerable populations (the elderly, children, mentally ill, homeless, and so on)?

•How will you address cultural groups and non-English speaking persons?

•Housing and shelter:

◦How will you let the residents of your community know where to go?

◦What system will you use to fill shelters?

◦How will you communicate shelter capacity to prevent overcrowding the shelters? What resources will you use to help staff shelters?

◦How many nurses will you allocate for shelters? Will you use nurses to staff shelters?

◦Will you use other nursing resources to staff shelters, such as Red Cross, U.S. Commissioned Corps, military nurses, and so on?

•What resources will you use to help provide food, water, and toilet facilities for victims?

◦Who will you call and when will you call?

•What procedures will you implement to prevent disease outbreak?

•How will you care for the needs of the public health department nursing staff?  Other requirements and considerations:

•Your plan should be as detailed as possible.

•Use a minimum of four peer-reviewed journal articles (the article you select from the provided list counts as one of the four) to support the effectiveness of your plan. Be sure to use proper APA style and formatting. •Include a title page.

•Include a reference page.

Be sure to use proper APA style and formatting.

Evidence Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Evidence Based Practice and the Quadruple Aim

Healthcare organizations continually seek to optimize healthcare performance. For years, this approach was a three-pronged one known as the Triple Aim, with efforts focused on improved population health, enhanced patient experience, and lower healthcare costs.

More recently, this approach has evolved to a Quadruple Aim by including a focus on improving the work life of healthcare providers. Each of these measures are impacted by decisions made at the organizational level, and organizations have increasingly turned to EBP to inform and justify these decisions.

To Prepare:

  • Read the articles by Sikka, Morath, & Leape (2015); Crabtree, Brennan, Davis, & Coyle (2016); and Kim et al. (2016) provided in the Resources.
  • Reflect on how EBP might impact (or not impact) the Quadruple Aim in healthcare.
  • Consider the impact that EBP may have on factors impacting these quadruple aim elements, such as preventable medical errors or healthcare delivery.

To Complete:

Write a brief analysis (no longer than 2 pages) of the connection between EBP and the Quadruple Aim.

Your analysis should address how EBP might (or might not) help reach the Quadruple Aim, including each of the four measures of:

  • Patient experience
  • Population health
  • Costs
  • Work life of healthcare providers

Although the menopause transition is primarily thought of as a normal physiological transition, it is a time that encompasses the period of time when women are experiencing changes in the menstrual cycle reflective of endocrine changes.

The physiologic processes can be difficult for providers to describe. In 2001, the Stages of Reproductive Aging Workshop (STRAW) developed a standardized approach to menopause terminology.

Discussion:

Please discuss the STRAW and the STRAW +10 definitions and why it is important for providers to have common language when communicating about the stages of menopause.
