“Week 2 Discussion”

“Week 2 Discussion” Please respond to the following:

  • Select two (2) out of the five (5) discussion questions presented on page 37 of your textbook. Answer your chosen questions, and justify your answers

I’ve attached an example of answers from my class discussion. Can you answer these same two questions in different wording.

1. What are potential problems with having a staffing process in which vacancies are filled (1) on a lottery basis from among job applicants, or (2) on a first come-first hired basis among job applicants?

If vacancies are filled on a first come first serve or lottery basis then jobs would be filled by individuals who many not be qualified. It would also not give an opportunity for managers to interview and fill positions by person/job or person/organization match. Another problem that may occur is over staffing. Over staffing would occur because individuals will be hired but if the individual does not have the required qualification then the individual will be employed but not working, just sitting around. The company would be over staffing with unqualified individuals and work would still not be completed.

2. Why is it important for the organization to view all components of staffing (recruitment, selection, and employment) from the perspective of the job applicant?

I believe it is very important to view all components of the staffing selection from the perspective of the job applicant to ensure the company looks appealing to the outside potential applicant. If your staffing process does not look appealing to potential applicants when the company is hiring nobody may apply for the position. Having a strong and appealing recruitment process peaks the interest of potential employees. This is a way to ensure good strong potential individual apply for open positions. It will also make the hiring process so much easier on HR and the hiring manager so they do not have to go looking for candidate.
