A Needs analysis is a method of finding out why performance may be less than whats expected.

Based on the video senario, a TNA would be very significant in identifying the reason for the employee performance gap. We have already identified that there is an issue with decreased sales from the sales department and that training is needed. The needs analysis will help to determine the specific need to be addresses.

I believe that an external business consultant may be more effective than an internal HR employee because the external consultant will view all information from an objective point of view. An internal HR employee may look at the situation or gathered information from a subjective point of view. When I consider issues within my current company, one that comes readily to mind is poor performance of instructors as it relates to handling paperwork. Each week every instructor is required to turn in a schedule of teaching topics for the week, as well as a lesson plan for teaching the topics. The majority of the instructors fail to turn in the paperwork prior to the beginning of class as required. In this particular situation, I believe the needs analysis could be performed by an internal HR professional because the trigger issue is not a company-wide issue, and it does not affect the business as a whole.
