Case Study: Hospital Design from an OM Perspective

Introduction

An important OM decision that is not made often is the design and layout of a new facility. The main OM goal is to assure that the layout and design support the organization’s operations in the most efficient and effective manner.

In this assignment, we will read a case study about evaluating and assessing the facility layout and design of a hospital from an operations perspective.

Instructions

  • Read and analyze the Case Study: Vos, Leti; Groothuis, Siebren; Merode, Godefridus. (Nov 2007) Evaluating hospital design from an operations management perspective. Health Care Management Science. (Attached)
  • Write a 4-5 page report that analyzes the case study and integrates the topics from this module. Please include the following answers in your analyses:
    • Was the evaluation method used appropriate for the goal of assessing the hospital design?
    • What operations management (OM) decisions were considered in the evaluation?
    • Are there any other OM decisions that should have been included in the evaluation?
    • Be sure to offer your own recommendation for the layout of the new hospital.
