Misinformation Effect Advanced General Psychology

Assignment 1: LASA # 2: PowerPoint Presentation
Utilizing the information you compiled for your literature review paper, and the feedback you received from your instructor about the literature review, prepare a 10-15 minute Power Point presentation on your topic, summarizing the key points and conclusions. Be sure to direct this presentation to an audience in the community. For example, if your paper pertained to a topic in developmental psychology, direct your presentation toward parents, or a parenting center. If your topic pertained to substance abuse, direct it toward a community service agency which may use this information for educating teens or parents about preventing drug use, or current clients about treatments and facilities available. Please state in your presentation the specific audience toward whom your presentation is aimed. Include a reference page in APA format, as well as speaker notes and an audio file with your presentation.
Your slides should provide answers to the following questions:

What was your topic?
What question did you hope to answer by completing this literature review paper? Explain the practical implications of the conclusions of the literature review and the audience to which they are directed.
Given the results of your literature review, what is/are the prevailing argument(s)? In other words, which of those is supported by the existing evidence? Be sure to include full coverage of the arguments, including strengths and weaknesses of each of them, supported by your findings from reviewing the relevant articles.
Did the researchers consider multicultural factors in their studies? If not, what factors may be involved? What multicultural factors should future studies include?
What ethical issues are related to your topic and/or discussed in the studies you reviewed?
How do the conclusions of your literature review relate to the various specialization areas in psychology? Tie them to as many as apply from the following areas: biological, cognitive, developmental, social, personality theory, psychopathology, and applied psychology.
How can the conclusions of your literature review inform the population towards whom your presentation is directed? How can they apply this information to their daily lives? What advice or ‘take home message’ can you provide to your audience based on the research you reviewed?
What research question could you ask in order to further develop this area of study?
Why is your research question important and relevant to the current work being done on your topic?

Your presentation should also follow these guidelines:

It should be approximately 10-15 minutes in length.
It should be clear, concise, and professional.  Writing should be free of spelling and grammatical errors; it should conform to current APA style (including any in-text citations).
It should include graphs, tables, figures, or images illustrating your ideas.
There should be a final slide listing references in current APA style.
The bulk of the text should be placed in the Notes pages of each slide. Keep the amount of text on the slide, itself, to a minimum.
You should record an audio file of your oral presentation. You should also type the text of the speech you would give while showing these slides to an audience should be typed into the Notes area.  If you are unable to use the audio feature, the Notes text will suffice.
You can refer to the Power Point tips document provided in the Doc Sharing section of the course.

Submit your presentation to the M5: Assignment 1 Dropbox by Monday, March 20, 2017.

How can nurses working in the community form partnerships with parish nurses and faith communities?

Topic 1: Faith-Based Nursing
Review Healthy People 2020. Identify objectives that are amenable to parish nurse intervention.
Describe how faith communities can contribute to the accomplishment of these national health objectives and accomplish the goal of improving the health of the public.
Faith communities play an essential role in accomplishing the goal of improving the health of the public. “From a socioecological perspective, churches can influence individual behaviors at multiple levels. The existence of social networks and social support through churches provides a context for health promotion programming. Health interventions that incorporate spiritual and cultural contextualization are effective to create change” (King, 2014). Faith communities provide many activities that promote a healthy lifestyle. Due to the strong beliefs in a faith communities make the people of those communities want to follow everything that is promoted by the activities. “Health messages may be perceived as more important and have a more lasting effect on individual behavioral change by making the link between healthy behavior and taking care of God’s child” (King, 2014).
How can nurses working in the community form partnerships with parish nurses and faith communities?
It is important for nurses to work with parish nurses and faith communities because they have many free resources that you can provide to a patient in need. “In addition to participating in group and population activities, the FCN meets regularly with the pastoral staff and coordinates with other community leaders. Together, they identify individuals who may require further assessment or support; become aware of issues that need to be clarified, supported, or addressed; and identify individuals, groups, or issues that have not yet become a part of the congregational wellness program” (King, 2014). Working with these nurses will provide our patient with more resources to better their health.
How would such partnerships be beneficial?
The partnership between parish nurses and other nurses play an important role in accomplishing the national health objectives. There partnership creates a better opportunity to increase awareness and provide valuable resources to those that need it.

Introduction to Clinical Statistics for EBP – Morbidity (Frequency) Measures

This Podcast provides an introduction to clinical epidemiology, the foundation of clinical statistics that are used in evidence-based practice (EBP). This podcast introduces morbidity or frequency measures of incidence, prevalence, and incidence density and why these concepts are important for advanced nursing practice. In addition, a brief overview of research designs to obtain incidence and prevalence data is included. Scroll down to the podcast player to listen to the podcast.
“Statistical thinking will one day be as necessary for efficient citizenship as the ability to read and write.” Samuel S. Wilks (1951) paraphrasing H. G. Wells http://www.causeweb.org/resources/fun/db.php?id=105OverviewClick Here to get Cathy’s Introduction to Clinical Statistics: Morbidity Measures Handout!Epidemiology is derived from the Greek: epi – upon; demos – people; logos – thought. Epidemiology is all about observing the population to identify the types of health problems that exist in that population, identifying the risk factors that lead to these health problems, and then using these data to make recommendations for prevention and treatment.
Clinical epidemiology is the observation of specific patient populations using strong scientific methods. Those evidence-based observations are used to guide clinical decision-making for individual patients. Therefore, one needs to be able to interpret the statistics used in clinical epidemiology to make sense of the evidence for practice decisions.
How Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) Make Decisions Using Clinical Epidemiological ConceptsClinical epidemiology and EBP are linked. APNs need to keep up with the literature to keep their practice up to date so they can make accurate decisions for their patients. APNs need to be able to understand and interpret the clinical statistics in the results sections of the studies they are reading. APNs then apply these results to answer questions of diagnosis (which test is the best to diagnose disease X?), treatment (which intervention is most effective?), and prognosis (what kind of predictions can be made about mortality or quality of life?).
Nurse administrators need to understand clinical statistics also to help them make the case for decisions about staffing and management.
As advanced clinicians appraise the research literature, they need to ask themselves questions about the researcher’s methods and interpretation of the results. They need to be able to differentiate useful from useless data so that they can prioritize and plan evidence-based health care, and so that they can evaluate the effect of interventions. They use this knowledge to compare level of disease among populations to help direct health policy decisions.
Quick Overview of Concepts Discussed in the PodcastMorbidity refers to a diseased or unhealthy state of being. We can count the occurrences of a diseased or unhealthy state by focusing on specific conditions, symptoms or health problems in a population — that’s why morbidity measures are also referred to as frequency measures.
The question that morbidity measures answer is, “How common is disease X?” You can ask about the frequency of specific signs or symptoms or health problems, too. This question produces an occurrence rate – “How common is cancer in X population?” “How common is shortness of breath in patients with Y?” Once you know occurrence rates you can anticipate the level of care that patients may require.
In healthcare, we talk about comorbidities all the time. Comorbid conditions are two or more disease states in an individual that are present at the same time. For example, we frequently see a patient with coronary artery disease (CAD) who also has hypertension or diabetes (or both!).
You frequently see morbidity linked with mortality (e.g., “M & M Rounds”). Mortality refers to a state of living (i.e., everyone is mortal) and is another term for death. Predictive scoring tools (AKA disease severity scores), such as an APACHE, SAPS, or SOFA scores; Glasgow Coma scale, etc. estimate morbidity in terms of disease severity and are used to predict patient outcomes such as mortality.
The frequency of clinically relevant measures are fractions that are expressed as, in general, the number of people experiencing the event/outcome you are interested in divided by the number of people in whom the event could have occurred.
The morbidity measures I talk about in the podcast are incidence, prevalence, and incidence density. In this podcast I’ll define the terms and explain why APNs should understand these concepts for patient decision-making. Scroll down to the podcast player to listen to the podcast. Analyze therapeutic approaches to treating clients with personality disorders Select one of the personality disorders from the DSM-5.

Clients with personality disorders often find it difficult to overcome their problems and function in daily life. Even when these clients are aware that they have a dysfunction with their personality and are open to counseling, treatment can be challenging for both the client and the therapist. For this Discussion, as you examine personality disorders, consider therapeutic approaches you might use with clients.
Analyze therapeutic approaches to treating clients with personality disorders Select one of the personality disorders from the DSM-5. Write a 2 page paper of the personality disorder you selected. Explain a therapeutic approach (including psychotropic medications if appropriate) you might use to treat a client presenting with this disorder, including how you would share your diagnosis of this disorder to the client in order to avoid damaging the therapeutic relationship. Support your approach with evidence-based literature. APA format at least three evidenced-based references.
