The pilots of Green Airlines which flies the Boeing 797 exclusively are known for their “rough†landings. When the force of the landing exceeds the strength of a wheel strut, a fracture (failure) will occur. The strength of wheel strut is affected by number of landings, n, and described as 650exp(- 0.00132n) psi. Measurements on the force of each landing have determined that the distribution is Weibull with a shape parameter of 1.85 and a scale parameter of 209 psi. Each aircraft averages 3 landings per day.

Answer the following questions: (total 16 marks)

1)       Determine the time (in days) to initial inspection of the landing gear struts to insure no more than a 0.5%  chance of  a strut  fracture (failure).  Any fractured struts are then  replaced and the inspection interval starts over.  (8 marks)
2)       If no fracture is found, the struts are inspected again after 60 days. What is the probability of detecting a fracture at the next inspection?   (8 marks)
  Given the following fault tree:

OR

AND                            OR                             OR

OR                              OR
AND

AND                            OR

Answer the following questions (total 24 marks)

1)       Express the system failure in terms of the basic events using Boolean logic. (6 marks)
2)       Find the minimum cut sets. From this analysis, what are the top four basic events that should be the focus of the reliability design effort?  (6 marks)
3)       If the probability of each basic event is 0.03, estimate the probability of the system failure. (6 marks)
4)       If the probability of the system failure is required to be reduced 50 percent based on the result obtained in 3), consider using redundancy of basic events for achieving the design target. It is required to keep the total number of basic events minimum in all possible solutions. Then, modify the fault tree diagram accordingly to represent your design.  (6 marks)

A consumer decides to perform an economic analysis to compare two different automobiles intended for use over the next 10 years. The first auto named Auto_1 averages 23 km per gallon and costs
$25,000. Consumer Reports says that the time between failures is gamma with a shape parameter of
2.58 and a scale parameter of 5000 km with an average repair cost of $508. Routine servicing is required every 6000 km at a cost of $130. Trade-in value after 10 years is estimated to be $11,000. The second auto named Auto_2 averages 21 km per gallon and costs $23,000. It has a time between failure distribution that Consumer Reports says is minimum extreme value with a scale parameter of 805 and a location parameter of 9350 km. Average repair cost as advertised is $400. Routine

servicing is required every 6500 km at a cost of $145. Trade-in value after 10 years is estimated to be
$9500. The consumer averages 18,000 km per year and has an available investment rate of return 4.5 percent. Inflation is expected to average 3.25% in every year over the next decade.

Questions  (total 22 marks)
1)       Given the cost of gasoline will be $3.0 per gallon in the first year and it will be increased year by year based on the inflation rate, which automobile should be purchased based only on the economic data provided? Give a short analysis report.  (11 marks)
2)       How would the life cycle costs compare if the cost of gasoline averages 3.50 (inflation has been considered) a gallon and the automobile is driven 16,000 km/year?  (11 marks)

Probability – Class Assignments Help

1. In semi-conductor manufacturing process, the maximum number of defects that we can accept on a wafer is 5. If the number of defects on a circuit follows a Poisson distribution with a mean of 2,
a. What is the probability that we reject a circuit? write the formula, write the value of each parameter (e.g. lambda), then provide the final value (no need to show the calculation steps; if you correctly write the value of parameters in the beginning you can only list the final value).
b. What percentage of circuits will be rejected in each lot? in each day? In each week?
c. On average, how many acceptable wafers do we make before we make an unacceptable wafer?
d. Imagine we can purchase a better machine that produces an average of 1 defect per wafer. Using the new machine, what percentage of each production batch will be unacceptable?
e. If the machine costs $1M and each unacceptable product costs us $200. At what level of production, would the investment in the new machine pay-off? How should the managers decide whether they should purchase the machine or not?

Psyc 221 Psychology Learning Reflection Journal

Psyc 221 Psychology Learning Reflection Journal
INSTRUCTIONS:
Weekly Journals: During each of the assigned weeks, you will write two paragraphs, each 300 words in length (i.e., 600 words total). The first paragraph will describe a topic that you found particularly interesting during that week and what made it interesting, and the second paragraph will describe something that you have observed occurring in the real world that exemplified that topic.
Only one topic may be recorded in the journal for each assigned week and the observed real word occurrence must be clearly related to it
Readings for this week include Chapter 14 and Chapter 15.
Chapter 14: Love and Hate. This innovative chapter is a student favorite, as it moves from serial killers and hate to love and attraction. It also serves to reinforce and elaborate the framework of various perspectives on personality. This chapter makes it clear that there is no simple, single explanation for personalities that love and personalities that hate, but we do know a lot. As with other chapters in this book, this chapter shows the wider importance of studying personality, and gives many applications to daily life.
Chapter 15 asks you – where will we find personality? What kind of world would it be if everyone had their brain chemistries continually adjusted or their behavior conditioned so that no one would yell at you, no one would rush to get ahead of you, no one would cry, and no one would worry whether she had turned the oven off? For every psycho-social problem, a pill or a therapist would be there. Even if such a world does not sound appealing, modern technology is increasingly providing you options that will allow personality to be altered. You must be educated about personality so that we know how to respond to these new options in a manner that is ethically appropriate. Each perspective teaches you something valuable, and together they provide a comprehensive understanding of what it means to be a person.

Intelligence Testing and Cut-off Scores

Intelligence Testing and Cut-off Scores
Assessment methods provide data to the clinician, however, the clinician must decide how to use the data in making a decision or recommendation with regard to the client. The assessment data do not make the decision for the clinician, rather the data are used by the clinician in making the decision. The process of clinical decision-making requires the clinician to apply the data to clinical “decision rules or guidelines.” For example, one guideline may be that if a clinician believes that their client, as a result of a mental illness, poses a substantial and imminent risk of harm to self or others then that clinician is obligated to pursue available means to have the client hospitalized. If a client reports suicidal ideation then the clinician must apply this information to their “decision rule” to determine if hospitalization is warranted. Also, the criteria determining an intellectual disability indicates a significantly below-average performance on a standardized test of intelligence, the presence of functional impairments, and onset prior to age 18. The criterion for establishing significant impairment in intelligence is frequently established as a score below 70 on a standardized test of intelligence.
All psychological tests have some degree of error and this reduces the accuracy of a score. Therefore, it cannot be established with certainty that an individual has a specific IQ of 69, 70, or 71, rather, there is a certainty of a score within a particular range, accounting for error. This application of data to clinical decisions is referred to as “clinical validity”âis the decision clinically valid? Clinicians must carefully assess their confidence in their decision as well as the consequences of an error in clinical judgment as a result of ever-present measurement error.
This week you are asked to take a position with regard to a current legal standard. Review this weekâs Learning Resources and analyze the Virginia v. Atkins ruling in which the Supreme Court has determined that it is unconstitutional to execute an individual who has an intellectual disability. In its decision the court stipulated that one criterion is an IQ score below 70. Consider the use of this “cut-off” score in formulating this type of decision. Remember, this is not a discussion about the death penalty; rather, it is a discussion about the use of specific cut-off scores in making clinical, administrative, or legal decisions.
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 4 an argument for or against the use of cut-off scores in diagnoses that might affect court decisions. Use the current literature to support your response. Then, justify an alternative solution to this issue using the Learning Resources and current literature to support your response. Finally, explain one way cut-off scores might be applied in clinical practice.

How would you take the information and organize it in a way that was useful?

Assignment: Application:Using the Data/Information/Knowledge/Wisdom ContinuumHave you ever gone online to search for a journal article on a specific topic? It is amazing to see the large number of journals that are available in the health care field. When you view the library in its entirety, you are viewing untapped data. Until you actually research for your particular topic, there is little structure. Once you have narrowed it down, you have information and once you apply the information, you have knowledge. Eventually, after thoughtful research and diligent practice, you reach the level of wisdom—knowledge applied in meaningful ways.
Are there areas in your practice that you believe should be more fully explored? The central aims of nursing informatics are to manage and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom. This continuum represents the overarching structure of nursing informatics. In this Assignment, you develop a research question relevant to your practice area and relate how you would work through the progression from data to information, knowledge, and wisdom.
To prepare:
Review the information in Figure 6–2 in Nursing Informatics and the Foundation of Knowledge.Develop a clinical question related to your area of practice that you would like to explore.Consider what you currently know about this topic. What additional information would you need to answer the question?Using the continuum of data, information, knowledge, and wisdom, determine how you would go about researching your question.Explore the available databases in the Walden Library. Identify which of these databases you would use to find the information or data you need.Once you have identified useful databases, how would you go about finding the most relevant articles and information?Consider how you would extract the relevant information from the articles. How would you take the information and organize it in a way that was useful? How could you take the step from simply having useful knowledge to gaining wisdom?By Day 7 of Week 4Write a 3- to 4-page paper that addresses the following:
Summarize the question you developed, and then relate how you would work through the four steps of the data, information, knowledge, wisdom continuum. Be specific.Identify the databases and search words you would use.Relate how you would take the information gleaned and turn it into useable knowledge. Can informatics be used to gain wisdom? Describe how you would progress from simply having useful knowledge to the wisdom to make decisions about the information you have found during your database search.Your paper must also include a title page, an introduction, a summary, and a reference page.
