Write in a professional style using APA citations

Using your own culture to compare to another country, prepare a 4 page memorandum for an organization’s management team that addresses the following:
-Describe how each country regards women and religion. Be sure to describe three assumptions about women and religion that influence views in each country.
-Assess how these assumptions impact an organization’s global recruiting and hiring practices. For example, could a woman hold a leadership role in your country of interest? How does religion influence your organization and work culture?
-Analyze what the GINI index data suggests about recruiting a gender-balanced workforce. For example, what challenges must you manage in developing a gender-balanced workforce in this country? Note: Use the World Bank Web site to locate the GINI index, which is linked in the Resources under the Required Resources.
-Recommend global recruiting and hiring practices based on the assumptions and data.
-Identify ways that a globally diverse workforce impacts an organization’s performance
-Describe how diversity differs from Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action.

Assignment 2: Evaluation of a Weight Loss Program
Many Americans believe that they are overweight, by a few pounds to a few hundred pounds. Because of this, weight loss systems are big business. For this assignment, you are to select a weight loss system and evaluate it in terms of the information about the physiology of ingestive behavior covered this module.

Find a website, a brochure, a popular article, or an advertisement about weight control that proposes a mechanism for loss of excess weight.
Document the key proposals in terms of the main claims for success of the program (e.g., restriction of fat and small portions).
Describe the reasons provided for the effectiveness of the program (e.g., a full stomach reduces hunger).
Discuss the physiological components involved in the weight loss program. Clearly express an understanding of the physiology of the process of hunger, satiation, eating, and drinking as relevant for the weight loss method being described (e.g., long periods between meals would be likely to reduce blood sugar levels).
Present a critique of the materials based on the module information on eating and weight regulation.
Evaluate the proposal and suggest whether you would try this weight loss system or recommend it to someone else. Explain why or why not.

For this assignment, you are required to cite, at a minimum, the online course and the textbook for the course. Additional sources are welcome. Scholarly sources are preferred and can be found in the Argosy University library located under the Academic Resources section of Course Home. For reputable web sources, look for .gov or .edu sites as opposed to .com sites. Do not use Wikipedia.
Your paper should be double-spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font, and with normal 1-inch margins; written in APA style; and free of typographical and grammatical errors. It should include a title page and a reference page. The body of the paper should be between 3 and 4 pages. Save the paper as AU_PSY350_M4_A2_LastName_FirstInitial.doc. Analyze any current issues related to compensation and benefits faced by the organization.

Write a research paper in which you address the compensation and benefits of a selected organization, based on information you have gathered and analyzed about the organization.
Structuring and communicating a total compensation package that meets regulatory requirements and the needs of the workforce requires a delicate balancing act between what is required and what will contribute to an effective relationship between employer, employee, and the community in which the company operates. Communicating benefits programs to employees can be as important as the benefits themselves. Knowing how to leverage all available compensation options is a necessary skill for any HR professional.
By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and assessment criteria:
Competency 1: Apply human resource strategies to business needs.
Analyze the costs of employee benefits to a company.
Explain how benefits are communicated to employees.
Analyze issues related to compensation and benefits packages organizations face.
Competency 3: Examine core functions of Human Resource Management.
Describe types of employee compensation.
Explain the differences between benefits that are legally mandated and those that are voluntary.
Competency 4: Appreciate the strategic value of HRM within a competitive global business environment.
Explain the role of benchmarking activities in developing a competitive compensation structure.
Describe environmental factors that can influence the compensation and benefits offered by an organization
Compensation is a combination of several elements, and a total compensation package typically includes base pay and benefits that are deemed appropriate to the environment in which a company or organization operates. Understanding the right balance begins with understanding a company’s competitive position in the market and its ability to pay. Structuring the right package is most often the responsibility of HR. The communication of that compensation plan will be of equal importance. Base pay is not total compensation, and competitive pay represents more than what the competition is paying. An employee is someone who has entered into an agreement with an employer. That agreement represents a fine line of negotiating the minimum breaking point in the employment arrangement. Unless that line is set firmly, all the other ingredients of a compensation package may tumble. So, how do you set up the parameters of an effective and competitive compensation system?
Finding a base wage is a good beginning, but in a competitive business climate, pay is not sufficient. Benefits and incentives can sometimes be the winning edge in attracting and retaining the best staff for your venture. Calculating the total compensation package is not always obvious. Occasionally, the best benefit may be invisible and may cost nothing.
Questions to consider:
How important are benefits packages to employees? Do you think that most employees place a greater emphasis on salary or on benefits?
In what ways does the benefits package offered by a company affect its talent pool and retention efforts?
Do the advantages of offering a robust benefits package off-set the associated costs?

Preparation
Choose an organization to use for this assessment. It can be where you are currently employed or a company with which you are familiar. It must be an organization that is researchable, as you will need to gather and analyze information in order to complete the assessment. You may use the same organization for the other assessments in this course.
If you choose the organization where you are currently employed, please keep in mind that the analyses you make must be based on facts that can be documented rather than your personal opinion as an employee.
Research the compensation and benefits of your selected organization. These topics are fluid and ever-changing, and a very good resource of information for these topics is the Capella library. Please search for sources published within the last 1–2 years for your assessment as you describe the compensation and benefits programs your chosen organization offers.
Deliverable
Based on your research into the compensation and benefits of the organization you selected, write a research paper in which you complete the following:
Describe the formal pay structure within the organization.
Describe any benchmarking activities the organization undertakes, including information on whether the organization offers a competitive compensation structure or incentives.
Describe any profit sharing or stock ownership programs that are available.
Explain which benefits offered by the organization are legally mandated and which are voluntary.
Analyze the cost of the benefits to the organization.
Explain how benefits are communicated to employees.
Analyze the environmental factors that have influenced the compensation and benefits of the organization.
Describe any problems associated with the compensation policies of the organization.
Analyze any current issues related to compensation and benefits faced by the organization.
Please note: You must address all the required elements of this assessment. If details for any of the bulleted points are unavailable, research the topic and present recommendations you believe would be best for the organization, along with your supporting rationale.
Additional Requirements
Your submitted assessment should include a title page, introduction, body, conclusion, and reference page.
Be sure you support your analyses with references to at least two resources.
You should format this assessment as a research paper following APA 6th edition guidelines for both style and citing sources, making sure that you also use correct grammar and mechanics.
There is no required minimum or maximum page length; however, you should strive to be as detailed as possible in addressing each bullet point, while also being as clear and concise as possible.

A new investigator would like to express and purify a newly discovered protein. She decides to clone the gene into a plasmid that contains the sequence for a hexahistidine tag. Plasmids that contain a sequence for a hexahistidine tag will produce a recombinant protein with six extra histidine residues at the N- or C-terminus of the protein of interest.
Order the following steps for construction of the expression plasmid, expression and purification of the protein. The gene of interest will be introduced between the NotI and HindIII restriction sites.
Please explain as well…
Purify the protein using a column of immobilized Ni2+
Introduce NotI and HindIII rrestriction sites at the ends of the gene of interest via PCR
Digest the plasmid and DNA encoding the genes with NotI and HindIII restriction endonucleases
Ligate the cut plasmid and DNA fragment
Transform the plasmid into E. coli for expression

What are your thoughts regarding the “Ban the Box” concept?

There are a few cities and states considering legislation on “Banning the Box” question that currently exists on employment applications and questions during the first round of interviews. For example:
On March 31, 2011, Philadelphia, PA City Council passed a “Ban the Box” bill, regulating the ability of employers to conduct criminal background checks in the employment process. Mayor Nutter signed the bill into law and it will apply to city agencies AND private employers employing 10 or more persons within the City of Philadelphia.
Under the new legislation:
· Employers would be precluded from inquiring about arrests that did not result in convictions, unless required or permitted by another law; and
· Employers would be precluded from making any inquiry regarding criminal convictions before and during the application process and initial interview process, or from requiring that applicants disclose any such information. It seems that after the first interview is conducted, the employer is free to conduct a criminal background check.
· Banning the box appears to give applicants with a criminal conviction, the opportunity be considered for opportunities prior to the employer’s knowledge of their criminal background. Additionally, it seems that the legislation is providing those with criminal backgrounds, an opportunity to compete with an equal playing field.
Imagine your role as a Human Resource Manager within an organization. Please answer the following questions:
· What are communication strategies that can be used to communicate the regulatory changes to hiring leaders within an organization?
· What are some of the policy changes that will need to take place within the organization?
· What are your thoughts regarding the “Ban the Box” concept?
Check out this website related to our topic: http://www.nelp.org/publication/ban-the-box-fair-chance-hiring-state-and-local-guide/

Michael Smith

The primary goal of the Learning and Cognition Handbook is to integrate concepts from the discipline of learning and cognitive psychology into a usable and professional guide that is designed for a specified audience which will be designated based on students’ current or future career goals. Students will choose one of five assigned constructs and focus their handbook on this specific area of learning and cognition. Skills and information learned throughout the course will be applied in the design and creation of this handbook. Findings from required sources, including those from the text and individual peer-reviewed articles, will be incorporated into the handbook; however, these findings will not constitute the total information for each of the sub-constructs addressed within the project. Students should include the relevant sources they researched in the Week Two Discipline-Based Literature Review as well as those from the Week Three Assignment. The purpose of the handbook is to share helpful strategies, apply the chosen construct to seven sub-constructs in the field, and present a holistic guide for others that can be used in the discipline.
To complete this assignment, students may utilize the Learning and Cognition Handbook template or create their own using the template as a guide. Each section of the handbook should be written in the student’s own words with use of limited paraphrased material cited according to APA standards as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center. Each section of the handbook should include a minimum of one visual (e.g., table, figure, or image) with a maximum of five visuals per section. Each image must be retrieved and cited based on current copyright laws. Students may wish to use the Where to Get Free Images guide for assistance with accessing freely available public domain and/or Creative Commons licensed images.
The following constructs will be the subject content options for this handbook and will be chosen based on an evaluative literature review in Week Two and students’ future career goals:

The Neurosciences:  A Look at Our Brains
Socio-Cognition: Social Interactions in Learning
Learning and Literacy: Reading, Writing, and Language Development
Diversity and Culture: The Effects to Learning
Connectionism and Learning: A Web of Development

The sections listed below must be used within the paper to delineate the sections of content.
Table of Contents In this section, students will list all sections and subsections included in the handbook with the applicable page numbers.
Preface In this section, students will provide a 100- to 150-word overview of the handbook and its potential use by the chosen audience.
Introduction to Chosen Construct In this section, students will provide a 200- to 300-word introductory summary of the chosen construct and discuss any careers in psychology specifically related to this construct. Beginning with the work completed in Week One, students will include the language from their personal epistemology (revised based on instructor feedback and the further development of their ideas and beliefs throughout the course and the program thus far).
Chosen Construct In this section, students will provide information that communicates how and why the chosen construct of learning and cognition affects the following sub-constructs through synthesizing the learning principles and/or theories. For each of the sub-constructs, students will apply basic research methods and skeptical inquiry to explain the theoretical perspectives and empirical findings that substantiate the relationship between the construct and the sub-constructs. Although creative liberties are encouraged, all information incorporated should be supported and professionally presented through the consistent application of ethical principles and adherence to professional standards of learning and cognition psychology as applied to the chosen audience.
Sub-Constructs Information for each sub-construct will be presented in 500 to 700 words.

Comprehension
Problem Solving
Memory Development/Retention
Lifelong Learning
Domains and Domain Learning
Affective Outcomes of Emotion
Effects of Demographic Differences (e.g., gender, socioeconomics, religious affiliation, race)

Conclusion In this section, students will provide a 200- to 300-word summarization of the handbook in which they describe the importance of the chosen construct and assigned sub-constructs within the learning and cognition domain and their applicability within the psychology profession for the chosen audience.
Attention Students: The Masters of Arts in Psychology program is utilizing the Pathbrite portfolio tool as a repository for student scholarly work in the form of signature assignments completed within the program. After receiving feedback for this Learning and Cognition Handbook, please implement any changes recommended by the instructor, go to Pathbrite and upload the revised Learning and Cognition Handbook to the portfolio. (Use the Pathbrite Quick-Start Guide to create an account if you do not already have one.) The upload of signature assignments will take place after completing each course. Be certain to upload revised signature assignments throughout the program as the portfolio and its contents will be used in other courses and may be used by individual students as a professional resource tool. See the Pathbrite website for information and further instructions on using this portfolio tool.
The Learning and Cognition Handbook

Must be 4000 to 7000 words (see instructions and rubric for each section and sub-construct) following the Learning and Cognition Handbook template as a guide. Although a handbook differs from a written paper, all citations and references must be formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Must include a title page with the required information from the handbook template:

Title of handbook
Student’s name
Institution’s name
Student’s contact information (address and email)
Course name and number
Instructor’s name
Date submitted

Must include the sections and subsections required as indicated in the handbook template.
Must address the construct and sub-constructs with critical thought and substantiated assertions.
Must document all sources in APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.
Must include a separate references page that is formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center at the end of the handbook and precedes any optional appendices if applicable to the project.
