Inmate Release

In this assignment, you will evaluate two hypothetical criminal cases in terms of inmate release. Imagine you are the authority figure in connection with these cases. Significant overcrowding in the prison system means these two inmates must receive early release; your task is to determine what form that release should take.

Scenario A: Inmate A, a former addict, was convicted of selling drugs and has served two years of a four-year sentence. This first-time offender has been a model inmate.

Scenario B: Inmate B was convicted of a white-collar crime, embezzlement, and has served nine months of a three-year sentence. This first-time offender has been reported for aggressive behavior.

Write a 2-3 page Essay explaining the decisions you would make regarding release in each of these scenarios and your reasons for doing so. Address the following components in your paper:

Describe the possible methods that could be used to release each inmate into the community. 

Select the release method you would assign to each criminal.

Provide a thorough explanation for each of your decisions.

You should write at least one page in response to each scenario.

For this assignment, you’ll be completing a brief. Again, this is the sort of task you might actually do at a law firm.

Arizona Christian School Tuition Organization v. Winn, 131 S.Ct. 1436 (2011) states that taxpayers lacked standing to bring an action alleging that an Arizona statute, which granted tuition tax credits to income taxpayers who contributed money to “student tuition organizations” (STO) that used the contributions to provide scholarships to students attending private schools, including religious schools, violated the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. Justice Kennedy wrote the opinion of the court holding that the taxpayers lacked standing. Justice Kagan filed a dissenting opinion, in which Justices Ginsburg, Breyer, and Sotomayor joined.

For this assignment, prepare a case brief for your instructor. Be sure to include the requirements outlined in the Legal Writing Guidelines section of the course. Additionally, discuss whether you agree with the majority opinion or the dissenting opinion in the case.

1. Do you agree with Peggy McIntosh’s assertions on the existence of “white privilege”? Can you cite any specific examples of “white privilege” in sport? Or, in the alternative, cite at least one example where a professional athlete, participant, or sport manager was/were denied equal consideration on account of membership in a minority group?
2. What specific details does author, Brian Papa, use to support the assertion that Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds were ultimately “done in by greed and racism”? Do you agree?

Part A: Project Schedule (Submit as one [1] Microsoft Project file)

1. Create a multi-level work breakdown structure (WBS) and detailed project schedule, using the information from the “Greendale Stadium Case” located at the end of Chapter 6, and incorporating the following constraints. Note: When you create your MS Project schedule, you will need to update your project per the following constraints:

o The project must consist of at least twenty (20) tasks. o Each task must have a start and finish date that matches the duration noted in the assignment. o Each task must be assigned to a resource (e.g., Demolishing Crew; Construction Crew; Landscaping Crew).
