The Native Americans formerly called American Indians are the first people to live on the continent so it is true that everyone else migrated to America. There is a lot of history between Euro-Americans and Native Americans. The land was slowly taken away from the Native Americans to where it is somewhat still happening regardless of the laws that were put in place. “The American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978 proclaimed ‘to protect and preserve for American Indians their inherent right to believe, express and exercise the traditional religions’” (Jandt, 2013).

I chose the North Dakota Pipeline crisis for it appears that the cultures which should be “co-cultures” are very much divided today. The Washington Post talks about the issue and describes about the visions and dreams that were experienced by tribal members prior to the crisis for example how a tribal woman dreamt of a big black snake out to devour the people. The Post continues to describe how it resembled the large pipeline full of black oil (Washington Post, 2016). The Post also wrote about how the violence started on the Native American side and violence simply escalated on both sides for the police needed more protection from the violent protesters.

The German newspaper, The Frankfurter Rundschau describes what is happening in more of a summary that the Native Americans are trying to protect the drinking water for the future generations and their land. It appears that the German report idolizes the Native Americans and puts them in a more heroic light. It factualizes, however puts out that the violence as one sided. The police as responsible.
