Regulation for Nursing Practice Staff Development Meeting

Assignment: Regulation for Nursing Practice Staff Development Meeting

Nursing is a very highly regulated profession. There are over 100 boards of nursing and national nursing associations throughout the United States and its territories. Their existence helps regulate, inform, and promote the nursing profession. With such numbers, it can be difficult to distinguish between BONs and nursing associations, and overwhelming to consider various benefits and options offered by each.

Both boards of nursing and national nursing associations have significant impacts on the nurse practitioner profession and scope of practice. Understanding these differences helps lend credence to your expertise as a professional.

In this Assignment, you will practice the application of such expertise by communicating a comparison of boards of nursing and professional nurse associations. You will also share an analysis of your state board of nursing.

To Prepare:

  • Assume that you are leading a staff development meeting on regulation for nursing practice at your healthcare organization or agency.
  • Review the NCSBN and ANA websites to prepare for your presentation.

The Assignment: (9- to 10-slide PowerPoint presentation)

Develop a 9- to 10-slide Voice-Over PowerPoint Presentation that addresses the following:

  • Describe the differences between a board of nursing and a professional nurse association.
  • Describe the geographic distribution, academic credentials, practice positions, and licensure status of members of the board for your specific region/area.
    • Who is on the board?
    • How does one become a member of the board?
  • Describe at least one federal regulation for healthcare.
    • How does this regulation influence delivery, cost, and access to healthcare (e.g., CMS, OSHA, and EPA)?
    • Has there been any change to the regulation within the past 5 years? Explain.
  • Describe at least one state regulation related to general nurse scope of practice.
    • How does this regulation influence the nurse’s role?
    • How does this regulation influence delivery, cost, and access to healthcare?
  • Describe at least one state regulation related to Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs).
    • How does this regulation influence the nurse’s role?
    • How does this regulation influence delivery, cost, and access to healthcare?

Demonstration of Proficiency

Write a 3-5 page blog post titled “Conflict and Power” that explains how individual perceptions of power can create conflict situations between law enforcement and members of a community. Use the relational theory of power to explain how perceptions affect the ability to resolve conflict. Then, identify a conflict resolution strategy and predict the outcome.

Introduction

Power plays a role in most conflicts. According to Coleman, Deutsch, and Marcus (2014), power can be understood by looking at its relationship to a situation and how that power is used. It is important to consider the role that each person in a conflict situation plays and that person’s place in the power hierarchy. Also, consider culture, as it can influence the way people react to power inequalities. Understanding these differences is key when trying to understand the dynamics of conflict and formulate strategies for conflict resolution.

Instructions

Complete the following:

  • Describe the factors or conditions that contribute to conflict situations between law enforcement and citizens.
  • Explain how perceptions of power may contribute to conflict situations between law enforcement and members of a community. Be sure you consider the perceptions of both the police and individual citizens.
  • Use the relational theory of power to explain how perceptions of power affect the ability to resolve police–community conflict.
  • Identify strategies you believe might be effective in reducing or resolving conflicts between police and communities.
  • Choose one strategy and determine the likely outcome.

Although an actual blog would not have any specific formatting, format this assessment following APA guidelines. This format will facilitate faculty evaluation and feedback.

providing care

What is the biggest barrier you face in providing care to Bana at this point?
The biggest barrier to Bana’s care is her lack of understanding what exactly is going to be done to provide her adequate care in America. The linguistic barriers don’t allow Bana to appropriately be questioned privately or ensure her understanding of interventions and follow up. If she were experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) her husband could interpret for her which would leave her at increased risk without the knowledge of the provider. Per JAMA (2018) she is at increased risk for IPV because of her age and her recent assault which could have been perpetrated by her husband, we are unsure because she does not understand what we are asking her. What is the priority action for you to take at this time?
My priority would be to get a medical interpreter and then proceed with the visit. I would question her further about her assault in Syria and if it included rape. The timing of her pregnancy is close to the time she was assaulted, and it should be explored. It could create another stressor for her and her husband that just adds to their financial issues and adjusting to life in a new country. What action is most important for you to take to ensure the health and safety of the fetus?
Per the CDC (2012a) refugees should have a complete H&P with comprehensive labs that include a CBC, UA, and glucose. Diseases that are easily transmittable such as TB, malaria, lead, parasites, and HIV/AIDS should be tested for as well, but HIV/AIDS is no longer tested for everyone, but I should be done as part of Bana’s pregnancy care. She is at increased risk of transmission if she was raped during her assault (CDC, 2012a). Testing for STIs should be done as part of her pregnancy care as well. Given Bana’s financial situation, you are concerned about her and her family having adequate nutrition. Which intervention would best address this concern?
Testing for anemias and deficiencies should be done. Getting a comprehensive H & P related to nutrition can help to identify long term issues from new issues with obtaining adequate nutrition. Directing Bana to local places where she can get help with food such as WIC and state aid or places where she can obtain food like local food pantries should be done (CDC, 2012b).References

Understanding family structure

Understanding family structure and style is essential to patient and family care. Conducting a family interview and needs assessment gathers information to identify strengths, as well as potential barriers to health. This information ultimately helps develop family-centered strategies for support and guidance.

This family health assessment is a two-part assignment. The information you gather in this initial assignment will be utilized for the second assignment or next assignment

Develop an interview questionnaire to be used in a family-focused functional assessment. The questionnaire must include three open-ended, family-focused questions to assess functional health patterns for each of the following:

1. Values/Health Perception

2. Nutrition

3. Sleep/Rest

4. Elimination

5. Activity/Exercise

6. Cognitive

7. Sensory-Perception

8. Self-Perception

9. Role Relationship

10. Sexuality

11. Coping

Select a family, other than your own, and seek permission from the family to conduct an interview. Utilize the interview questions complied in your interview questionnaire to conduct a family-focused functional assessment. Document the responses as you conduct the interview.

Upon completion of the interview, write a 750-1,000-word paper. Analyze your assessment findings. Submit your questionnaire as an appendix with your assignment.

Include the following in your paper:

1. Describe the family structure. Include individuals and any relevant attributes defining the family composition, race/ethnicity, social class, spirituality, and environment.

2. Summarize the overall health behaviors of the family. Describe the current health of the family.

3. Based on your findings, describe at least two of the functional health pattern strengths noted in the findings. Discuss three areas in which health problems or barriers to health were identified.

4. Describe how family systems theory can be applied to solicit changes in family members that, in turn, initiate positive changes to the overall family functions over time.

Cite at least three peer-reviewed or scholarly sources to complete this assignment. Sources should be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria. Include purpose and conclusion.

Diversity, You, and Society

Instructions –  Diversity, You, and Society

Project Topic –   Conflicts in Intergenerational Workplace

For this third milestone, you will reflect on content that will inform your multimedia presentation, which you will include in Final Project Part Two. You will reflect on the intersectional nature of diversity and its impact on one’s individual framework of perception, one’s discipline of study, and society in general. The milestone will be submitted as a presentation draft that includes speaker’s notes.

Make sure you support your response with the readings from this module attached below and additional resources.

To complete this assignment, YOU MUST FOLLOW the Milestone Three Guideline and Rubric

“Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer Template

Use the “Nursing Roles Graphic Organizer Template” to differentiate how advanced registered nurse roles relate to and collaborate with different areas of nursing practice. Compare your future role with one of the following: nurse educator; nurse leader; family nurse practitioner; acute care nurse practitioner; graduate nurse with an emphasis/specialty in public health, health care administration, business, or informatics; clinical nurse specialist; doctor of nursing practice. Indicate in the appropriate columns on the template which roles you are comparing.

Electronic Health Records (EHR)

The cross posts provide new or supplemental information to the original posting or raise additional areas for discussion. New or additional peer reviewed references should be cited in both cross posts.

Discussion cross posts should elaborate upon the ideas of others or content found in the readings/keynotes by adding details, examples, a different viewpoint, or other relevant information. The cross posts should provide original insights or responses which integrates multiple views. (Just saying ditto, I agree, or restating the original post is not considered elaboration.) There should be evaluation and feedback which assesses the accuracy, reasonableness, or quality of idea, and provides constructive feedback to classmates.

Be sure to use at least one reference. APA formatting, References should be timely, published within the previous 5 years.

Listed below is the discussion post you must respond to in 250-350 words max:

Background

The topic chosen that is related to nursing informatics is the role of the electronic health records on quality and safety in providing patient care. The Electronic Health Records (EHR) is an electrically version that is used to store the medical history (progress, problems, and medication among others) of the patient and it is being maintained by the provider at the given time (Cowie, 2017). Previously in the year 1950s, all the medical accounts in the hospitals were being kept together with papers in a filling system which was manual. By the middle of the 1960s, Lockheed come up with an electronic program by the name clinical information system that was used to store the medical records electronically. From his invention, the engineering and the technology firms started to develop the electronic medical records systems that were being used both by the universities and the hospitals. In 1970s, the government started to use the EHR as more of the medical facilities started to use it and is still being use up to date (Goldstein, 2017).

Significance

This system plays an important role in the production of the documentations and exchanging information in the different disciplinary which are found under the patient care (Cowie, 2017). Besides, it also plays an important role in providing the opportunity for educating, teaching and learning under the medical environment. The EHR allows for medical facilities to have a decrease in the amount of paper work dealt with, and the amount of storage spaced required is decreasing. Also, it plays a major role in managing the results and the decision making as the quality of the patients care is highly improved. The nurses has the ability to review lab work with the click of a button. This enhances the quality of the medical records as the man-made errors from the manual system have been dealt away with.

Challenges and benefits in healthcare

The information within the medical records of the patient is very safe and secure. This is because it is not easily accessed by unauthorized person hence security. Also, it is very hard to lose such data as compared to the manual system where the information could easily be misplaced. Despite the benefits of EHRs, these systems are faced with many challenges. Among the challenges we have the security and privacy issues as all the computers are networked currently have, which makes them vulnerable to hacking of a patient’s data. This is dangerous as the information of the patient might land to the hands of the wrong person (Goldstein, 2017). Another challenge is that some people using the system might be stuck in their ways making it impossible for the system to be accessed with efficiency. This is challenging as much time and resources have to be taken to train them on how to use the system. Another challenge comes on the side of the power disruption where all the activities will have to be stopped until a backup for power is available.
