Focused Ear Exam

Case 3: Focused Ear Exam
Martha brings her 11-year old grandson, James, to your clinic to have his right ear checked. He has complained to her about a mild earache for the past two days. His grandmother believes that he feels warm but did not verify this with a thermometer. James states that the pain was worse while he was falling asleep and that it was harder for him to hear. When you begin basic assessments, you notice that James has a prominent tan. When you ask him how he’s been spending his summer, James responds that he’s been spending a lot of time in the pool.

Caucasian Man With Hip Pain

Examine Case Study: A Caucasian Man With Hip Pain. You will be asked to make three decisions concerning the medication to prescribe to this client. Be sure to consider factors that might impact the client’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes.

At each decision point stop to complete the following:

  • Decision #1
    • Which decision did you select?
    • Why did you select this decision? Support your response with evidence and references to the Learning Resources.
    • What were you hoping to achieve by making this decision? Support your response with evidence and references to the Learning Resources.
    • Explain any difference between what you expected to achieve with Decision #1 and the results of the decision. Why were they different?

Required Texts

Boswell, C. & Cannon, S. (2013). Introduction to nursing research: Incorporating evidence

based practice (3rd  ed.). Sudbury, MA: Jones and Bartlett.  ISBN: 1-4496-9507-8

Dear H 365 student: Do use an APA reference for postings and try to connect your point to the chapter(s) we are studying. Do try to tie your “post” to a particular concept in the text/chapter and do consider asking a question that clarifies or probes a classmate (in your reply post).

I have listed the point guide here below. We are off to a good start – thank you, Dr Cullen

10 points: Demonstrates excellence in grasping key concepts; critiques work of others, stimulates discussion; provides citations for support of opinions. Ideas are expressed clearly and concisely. Uses appropriate vocabulary. Student makes a thoughtful an initial post and makes a thoughtful comment on a classmates post.
8 points: Shows evidence of understanding major concepts; offers an occasional divergent viewpoint or challenge; show some skill in supporting ideas. Expression of ideas somewhat disorganized. Student makes an initial post and a thoughtful response to a peer.
5 points: Shows evidence of understanding most major concepts, offers an occasional divergent viewpoint or challenge; lacks skill supporting ideas. Some signs of disorganization with expression; transition wording may be faulty. Student makes an initial post and/or doesn’t give much of a response to group members post
3 point: Has mostly shallow grasp of material; rarely takes a stand on issues; offers inadequate support. Poor language use garbles much of the message and expression seems disjointed. Overuse of simple sentence and comments are redundant without commentary. Paragraphs appear unrelated. Student does not respond to a peer.

psychopharmacologic treatments

As nurse practitioners strive to achieve full-autonomous practice across the country, it should be noted that many states grant this ability to practice independently to psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners. To that end, you will be engaging in projects this semester that assume that you are practicing in a state that allows full-practice authority for NPs, meaning that the PMHNP may be the “captain of the ship” concerning caring for a patient population. The “captain of the ship” is the one who makes referrals to specialists, coordinates care for their patients/clients, and is responsible and accountable for patient/client outcomes overall. This is a decided change from a few decades ago when physicians were the “captain of the ship” and NPs played a peripheral role.

In this Assignment, you will become the “captain of the ship” as you provide treatment recommendations and identify medical management, community support resources, and follow-up plans for a client with a depression disorder.

Learning Objectives

Students will:

· Recommend psychopharmacologic treatments based on therapeutic endpoints for clients with depression disorders

· Recommend psychotherapy based on therapeutic endpoints for clients with depression disorders

· Identify medical management needs for clients with depression disorders

· Identify community support resources for clients with depression disorders

· Recommend follow-up plans for clients with depression disorders

To prepare for this Assignment:

· Select an adult or older adult client with a depressive disorder you have seen in your practicum.

In 4 pages, write a treatment plan for your client in which you do the following:

Thesis statement

Describe the HPI and clinical impression for the client.

Recommend psychopharmacologic treatments and describe specific and therapeutic endpoints for your psychopharmacologic agent. (This should relate to HPI and clinical impression.)

Recommend psychotherapy choices (individual, family, and group) and specific therapeutic endpoints for your choices.

Identify medical management needs, including primary care needs, specific to this client.

Identify community support resources (housing, socioeconomic needs, etc.) and community agencies that are available to assist the client.

Recommend a plan for follow-up intensity and frequency and collaboration with other providers.

professional standards of nursing.

Social media plays a significant role in the lives of nurses in both their professional and personal lives. Additionally, social media is now considered a mainstream part of the process for recruiting and hiring candidates. Inappropriate or unethical conduct on social media can create legal problems for nurses as well as the field of nursing.

Login to all social media sites in which you engage. Review your profile, pictures and posts. Based on the professional standards of nursing, identify items that would be considered unprofessional and potentially detrimental to your career and that negatively impact the reputation of the nursing field.

In 500-750 words, summarize the findings of your review. Include the following:

  1. Describe the posts or conversations in which you have engaged that might be considered inappropriate based on the professional standards of nursing.
  2. Discuss why nurses have a responsibility to uphold a standard of conduct consistent with the standards governing the profession of nursing at work and in their personal lives. Include discussion of how personal conduct can violate HIPAA or be considered unethical or unprofessional. Provide an example of each to support your answer.
  3. Based on the analysis of your social media, discuss what areas of your social media activity reflect Christian values as they relate to respecting human value and dignity for all individuals. Describe areas of your social media activity that could be improved.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

Community-Based Organizations

In the chapter, “How Community-Based Organizations Are Addressing Nursing’s Role in Transforming Health Care,” the authors describe the community as the focus of advocacy action for change. They list a series of questions that help community teams develop organizing principles to guide their interventions, and the aim is to attack social determinants of health to make community change.

Suppose a community team identifies lack of access to exercise modalities as a public health issue. If the team were to determine that pedestrian walkways need to be constructed, discuss at least two factors that would facilitate the development of the walkways and two that would hinder the development. For the hindrances, discuss ways that the team might work to overcome those hindrances.
