Christianity and Judaism

The purpose of this paper is to complete a comparative ethical analysis of the case study *attached* to study George’s situation and decision from the perspective of two worldviews or religions: Christianity and Judaism.

PART 1

In your comparative analysis, address all of the worldview questions in detail for Christianity and the Jewish faith. Refer to the the list of questions below. Once you have outlined the worldview of each religion, begin your ethical analysis from each perspective.

to understand the concept of worldview, answer the following questions:

-What is prime reality?

-What is the nature of the world around us?

-What is a human being?

-What happens to a person at death?

-Why is it possible to know anything at all?

-How do we know what is right and wrong?

-What is the meaning of human history?

PART 2

In 1,500-2,000 words, provide an ethical analysis based upon the different belief systems, reinforcing major themes with insights gained from your research, and answering the following questions based on the research: (USE THE ATTACHED CASE STUDY FOR THIS PART)

  1. How  would each religion interpret the nature of George’s malady and suffering? Is there a “why” to his disease and suffering? (i.e., is there a reason for why George is ill, beyond the reality of physical malady?)
  2. In George’s analysis of his own life, how would each religion think about the  value of his life as a person, and value of his life with ALS?
  3. What  Sorts of values and considerations would each religion focus on in deliberating about whether or not George should opt for euthanasia?
  4. Given  the above, what options would be morally justified under each religion for George and why?
  5. Finally,  present and defend your own view (Christian but does not practice the faith actively, believes in god and jesus, heaven and hell but more conservative in the ideas to choose our own path and life choices vs. god’s will).

Support your position by referencing at least three academic resources in addition to the course readings, lectures, the Bible, and the textbooks for each religion. Each religion must have a primary source included. A total of six references are required according to the specifications listed above. Incorporate the research into your writing in an appropriate, scholarly manner.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide. An abstract is required

Evaluating financial statements

Evaluating financial statements and using financial analysis methods is a critical part of the decision to make capital investments. The goal of capital management is to acquire and maintain sufficient working capital and assets. This helps an organization meet operating and expense obligations, while also keeping a sufficient cash flow. It is also a way to confirm that capital purchases and agreements are made with ethical standards. This part of your project will require you to complete two (2) article reviews and report on your findings. Then, you will apply your findings to how capital decisions can be made in your specific case; as well as comparing your viewpoint to the authors’ and recent ethical scandal. Keep in mind that you will use your article analysis to either support or disprove the purchase of an information system in the final portion of your project.

Submit a minimum 3-page report that:

· Discusses why is it more difficult for healthcare companies to get expansion financing in the today’s economic climate and financial issues with expansions.

· Describes why healthcare companies need to look beyond their banks to secure financing.

· Explains the importance of making a good case for expanding healthcare providers’ methods of calculating break-even analysis.

· Discuss non-financial factors do the authors believe need to be included in break-even analysis?

· Explain how current issues, such as the Affordable Care Act, affect break-even analysis.

· Summarizes the authors’ viewpoints and apply the concepts to your case. Also include a summary of your viewpoint in comparison to the authors’. Be sure to specifically address the methods that influence capital investments and decision-making; and explore methods of analyzing capital investments (Payback, Net Present Value, and Internal Rate of Return). This report will serve as your Capital Management section of your project.

· Analyze the key points of the Enron Scandal and specifically address how professionalism and ethics influence decision-making. How do unethical standards impact an organization’s performance and capital investments? Reference the concepts of embezzlement and losses. Explain how you maintain ethical standards in relation to Code of Ethics.

· Include an APA formatted reference page to include at least three (3) academic sources, such as a book or an academic scholarly journal, to support your topic. You should reference your academic sources by including at least three (3) in-text citations. You can use the articles outlined in the instructions, as well as information found on the Enron Scandal. Academic scholarly journals can be accessed through the Rasmussen Online Library.

Article Review #1
Read the article Expanding Credit Lines in Order to Expand which discusses the challenges related to expansion financing.

· Discuss why is it more difficult for healthcare companies to get expansion financing in the current economic situation?

· Explain the 2 major issues with the Caribbean expansion the turnaround company found and why do you think they were brought up?

· Describe why healthcare companies need to look beyond their banks to secure financing?

Article Review #2
Read the article The New Break-Even Analysis which looks at expanding how healthcare providers look at break-even analysis and includes some non-financial considerations.

· Do you think the authors make a good case for expanding healthcare providers’ methods of calculating break-even analysis? Why or Why Not?

· Discuss non-financial factors do the authors believe need to be included in break-even analysis?

· Explain how the Affordable Care Act affect break-even analysis?

Nursing Management During Labor and Birth

Chapter 14: Nursing Management During Labor and Birth

1.  Desiree, a 28-year-old G2P1, is admitted to the labor and birth unit. Her birth plan indicates that she is planning natural childbirth without pharmacological interventions. She has attended childbirth education classes. Desiree is considered low risk based on her personal and family health history and physical exam. Her pregnancy has progressed without complications. She is approximately 38 weeks pregnant. Vaginal assessment reveals cervical dilation at 10 cm, 100% effaced, and +1 station. Position of the fetus is LOA. The external fetal monitor indicates a reassuring fetal heart rate at 130 beats per minute. Maternal status is stable. (Learning Objectives 1, 2, 6, and 9)

  1. Based on the vaginal assessment, identify the stage of labor and appropriate nursing interventions for this stage of labor.
  2. Explain how the nurse determined that the external fetal monitor would be appropriate for Desiree. What factors would necessitate a change to internal fetal monitoring during labor?
  3. Desiree says, “I’m not sure I can cope with the pain much longer.” How would you respond, considering her birth plan, stage of labor, and assessment data?

2.  Emily, a 26-year-old G3P2, has been in labor for 5 hours and is 7 cm, 90% effaced and +2 station.  She has external fetal monitoring in place, which reveals a baseline fetal heart rate of 120 bpm, minimal variability, and occasional variable decelerations.  Suddenly, as a contraction is beginning to subside, the fetal heart rate drops to a low of 80 bpm and has a slow return to the baseline 1 minute after the contraction has ended.  (Learning Objectives 4 and 5)

A.  What is happening to Emily’s baby at this point in time?  What does this mean?

B.  What role do you, as the nurse, play regarding fetal assessment and what interventions do you need to implement/recommend at this point in time?

Chapter 15: Postpartum Adaptations

1.     You are caring for Linda, who has just delivered her first baby. You are responsible for assessing Linda’s condition during recovery and for doing patient teaching when the opportunity arises. (Learning Objectives 2 and 3)

  1. While she is recovering, you keep checking her fundal height. Linda asks you how her uterus will go back to the way it was before she had the baby. How would you explain this physiologic process? What could impede the process?
  2. Linda wants to know how long she should expect to bleed. What would you tell her?
  3. The next day Linda appears very passive and you have overheard her telling everyone who will listen about her labor experience. What phase of adjustment is Linda going through? What other stages should she go through while adjusting to her new role?

2.     Gretta and Sam just had their first child. Gretta is excited and talkative about her birth experience and wants to keep her baby with her constantly. She tells you his name is Joseph and they will call him “Joey” for short. Gretta is breast-feeding and is attentive to Joey’s needs. You observe that Sam does not initiate contact with the baby but when Gretta insists that he hold Joey, he picks him up slowly and awkwardly and stares at his face for a long period of time. When Joey cries, he immediately returns him to Gretta’s arms. (Learning Objective 4)

A.   Based on your observations of Sam’s interactions with Joey, relate where Sam is developmentally in the process of paternal attachment and bonding.

B.    What nursing interventions could you implement that would assist Sam in the transition to fatherhood?

Nursing Management of Labor

(Answers to Case studies and one nursing care plan )

Chapter 21: Nursing Management of Labor and Birth at Risk

1.  Laura is a 26-year-old G2P1 who had a caesarean delivery for fetal distress with her first pregnancy. Laura is now struggling with deciding between a repeat caesarean delivery or attempting a VBAC.  (Learning Objective 9)

A.    In order to ensure that Laura has the facts to assist her in her decision, explain the risks of a repeat caesarean delivery.

B.    Laura can’t understand why more women don’t want to try a VBAC delivery.  Discuss the possible reasons for this.

C.    Describe the management of care for a woman attempting a VBAC delivery.

2.  Carol, age 17, is pregnant with her first child.  Her menstrual dates are accurate and her date of conception is limited to one possible day.  Her physician gives her an EDC of March 28th.  Carol has gone past her due date and refuses to have her labor induced.  Carol states, “My grandmother says that the baby will come when it is good and ready.”  It is now April 14th and Carol is at 42 3/7 weeks’ gestation. She calls the office and reports that she is having a significant lower backache and she just passed “a glob of bloody mucus” from her vagina.  (Learning Objective 5)

A.  Discuss the risks a prolonged pregnancy places on Carol.

B.  What risks are there for Carol’s unborn baby?

C.  Describe the nursing care required for women in labor with a prolonged pregnancy.

Chapter 22: Nursing Management of the Postpartum Woman at Risk

1. Amy calls the office 3 days after delivering a healthy baby girl and tells you she is passing small clots and feels like her bleeding is heavier than it should be. You advise Amy to come into the clinic to be checked. (Learning Objectives 1, 2, 3, and 6)

  1. What are the “four T’s” that need to be assessed in a possible case of postpartum hemorrhage?
  2. Amy also tearfully tells you that she is experiencing anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed. What is she experiencing, and what education are you going to provide?

2. Alyssa, age 26, had a cesarean delivery 7 days ago and is breast-feeding her baby. She calls the office today and reports that she has a temperature of 102. (Learning Objective 5)

  1. Given the limited information you have, describe the four most likely types of infection Alyssa may have contracted.
  2. What additional questions do you want to ask her to try to ascertain the cause of her fever?

3. Describe the care required to treat each of these infections.

Chapter 24: Nursing Management of the Newborn at Risk: Acquired and Congenital Newborn Conditions

1. On the evening shift in the special care nursery, you are paged to delivery room 5. When you arrive, the labor nurse says the baby has been stuck in the birth canal for a while, and the fetal heart tones are down. They use the vacuum suction to assist delivery. The doctor gets the baby out and places the infant on the radiant warmer. You are the resuscitating nurse for the infant, and you observe the following: the infant is limp, pale, gasping, has poor tone, and the heart rate is 101. (Learning Objective 1)

  1. What are your first actions to aid in this infant’s recovery?
  2. What Apgar score would you assign at 1 minute with these results? Explain the score for each category.

2. Tammi is an 18-year-old single mother who delivered a full-term infant 3 days ago. The father is not involved, and Tammi’s aunt is her support person. The infant is very fussy in the nursery, with mild tremors noted. Tammi is having a hard time feeding her baby, the baby spits up a lot and he does not console easily. The physician has been called to assess the infant. (Learning Objective 7)

  1. What is the probable cause of the infant’s symptoms, and what questions do you need to ask the mother?
  2. What is the acronym of the tool used in assessing the infant’s condition, and what are the top three substances used that can cause this condition?
  3. Name what measures are used to test for this condition and on whom you perform the test.

3. Mandy just gave birth vaginally to her first child. Mandy and James had attended prenatal classes and had a natural childbirth. They were totally unprepared to see that baby “Rose” has a severe left-sided unilateral cleft lip and cleft palate. James is having a hard time with this and just keeps staring at the baby. Mandy begins to cry and states “I thought I was going to breast-feed my baby and now it’s impossible.” (Learning Objectives 12, 14, and 15)

  1. A. Discuss the implications for bottle feeding and breast-feeding a baby with a unilateral cleft lip. Is it possible for Mandy to breast-feed Rose?
  2. B. What is involved in the surgical correction of the defect? When can she eventually have a “normal” mouth and facial features?
  3. C. What other problems may develop for Rose since she has this type of defect?

D. How can you assist the family bond with Rose?

Examining Nursing Specialties

Discussion: Examining Nursing Specialties

You have probably seen one or more of the many inspirational posters about decisions. A visual such as a forked road or a street sign is typically pictured, along with a quote designed to inspire.

Often decisions are not so easily inspired. Perhaps you discovered this when choosing a specialty within the MSN program. This decision is a critical part of your plan for success, and you no doubt want to get it right. This is yet another area where your network can help, as well as other sources of information that can help you make an informed choice.

To Prepare:

  • Reflect on your decision to pursue a specialty within the MSN program, including your professional and academic goals as they relate to your program/specialization.
By Day 3

Post an explanation of your choice of a nursing specialty within the program. Describe any difficulties you had (or are having) in making your choice, and the factors that drove/are driving your decision. Identify at least one professional organization affiliated with your chosen specialty and provide details on becoming a member.

Support main post with 3 of more current, credible sources and cite source within content of posting and on a reference list in proper APA.

By Day 6

Be sure to offer support from at least 2 current, credible sources in each required response to classmates’ main post and cite per APA.

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days, by sharing your thoughts on their specialty, supporting their choice or offering suggestions if they have yet to choose.

Values-Based Leadership

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT 3

Topic: Values-Based Leadership

Servant Leadership Experience

Details:

Find an opportunity to demonstrate servant leadership in your organization or community through volunteering or serving others. The experience should be something that is new for you and takes you out of your comfort zone. The goal of the experience is to get a tangible moment to think about leadership from a different perspective. Rather than looking at a leader in the hierarchical sense, look at it in terms of what the results of your volunteering could do for others and how, if done consistently, it might influence change or produce a positive impact for the greater good. Submit a one or two paragraph summary of your intended servant leadership activity for approval by your instructor. Include the name of the organization and contact information for the organizational leader. You will use this activity as the basis for the Servant Leadership Analysis assignment in Topic 8.

APA format is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.

“Hospital Compare

Comparing, or benchmarking, outcomes is an important means by which health care providers strive to improve quality of care. Although this concept applies to all kinds of clinical care facilities, for this Discussion you focus on hospitals so that you can make use of data on the CMS’s “Hospital Compare” website to conduct some basic benchmarking analysis.

Using this analysis as a launching point, you then evaluate priorities for improvement and consider how to create a motivating environment that supports significant, lasting change.

To Prepare

Go to http://www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare/search.html

  • Enter search criteria and click “Find Hospitals.” Select a hospital on which to focus for this Discussion.
  • Review all of the data on this hospital, which should include the various Process of Care Measures and the Survey of Patients’ Hospital Experiences (HCAHPS scores).
  • Compare the data for your selected hospital with data from other institutions in the area and across the country, as you think appropriate. (To do this, repeat the steps described above, but this time include these other institutions in your comparison.)
  • Based upon your first selected hospital’s comparative scores, what do you think is the most important area related to patient satisfaction/clinical outcomes to improve, and why? It may be helpful to consider what other steps you would take to get a clearer picture of this quality issue.
  • Think about how you as a leader and manager would communicate change at the point of care (front line) to provide service that improves one or more patient satisfaction/clinical outcomes in your selected hospital.

By Day 3

Post a brief description of the hospital and your selected outcome, including indications of the needed improvement. Then, provide a short, persuasive statement demonstrating how you would communicate and motivate a nurse at the point of care (front line) to provide service that improves the selected outcome. Support your statement with evidence and strategies from the literature.
