In clinical supervision, using psychotherapeutic theory as a framework is considered to have some value; however, generally supervision relationships are conceptualized by using a developmental, social role, or integrative model of supervision.As a supervisor, you will develop you own style of supervision, similar to the development of your own unique style of counseling. More than likely, you will find yourself leaning toward a specific theory, model, or integration of supervisory modalities as you progress in your practice. For this Discussion, you analyze how models of supervision might integrate with your future practice of supervision. You consider how the application of a specific supervision model could frame your practice differently than if you used a psychotherapeutic theory alone.

Review Chapter 2 in the course text, Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision. Pay particular attention to the different supervision models. Note the review of psychotherapeutic models of supervision. Review the assigned journal articles from this week’s Resources. Note the rationale each author(s) employs as a basis for his or her supervision model.Think about the strengths and limitations of these models as to use with supervisees from diverse backgrounds.Consider how features of each model resonate and respond to cultural competency.
