Critiquing a Change Effort

Critiquing a Change Effort

As a nurse leader, you need to have the skills and knowledge to collaborate and communicate with those who plan for and manage change. This capacity is valuable in any health care setting and for many different types of change. Furthermore, it is essential to be able to evaluate a change effort and determine if it is promoting improved outcomes and making a positive difference within the department or unit, or for the organization as a whole.

To prepare:

  • Review Chapters 7 and 8 in the course text. Focus on the strategies for planning and implementing change in an organization, as well as the roles of nurses, managers, and other health care professionals throughout this process.
  • Reflect on a specific change that has recently occurred in your organization or one in which you have worked previously. What was the catalyst or purpose of the change?
  • How did the change affect your job and responsibilities?
  • Consider the results of the change and whether or not the intended outcomes have been achieved.
  • Was the change managed skillfully? Why or why not? How might the process have been improved?

Post  (1) a summary of a specific change within an organization and describe the impact of this change on your role and responsibilities. (2) Explain the rationale for the change, and whether or not the intended outcomes have been met. (3) Assess the management of the change, and propose suggestions for how the process could have been improved.

Abstract: Planned change in nursing practice is necessary for a wide range of reasons, but it can be challenging to implement. Understanding and using a change theory framework can help managers or other change agents to increase the likelihood of success. This article considers three change theories and discusses how one in particular can be used in practice.

: Communicate effectively

The Course Outcomes covered this week are below.

CO2: Communicate effectively with culturally diverse individuals, families, and organizations. (PO3)

CO4:  Perform a culturally competent nursing assessment. (PO7)

This week

  • select and read one of the chapters of particular interest to you listed in Assignments under Readings;
  • discuss what information you should obtain to develop and implement culturally appropriate plans of care for an individual of this group; and
  • share a brief case study or exemplar as a way to share your formation.

Examples:

Childbearing: A young Hasidic mom just emigrated from Israel to the United States. She is at term and comes to your Mother/Baby Unit for delivery.

Children: Oman is 5 years old. His family members are refugees from Syria. At the local community center a routine blood sugar test indicated his results were very high. He now needs hospitalized for control.

Adult: Luca moved to the United States after earning her BSN in Manila, Philippines. She works three jobs so that she can send money home to her family. She needs a treatment for breast cancer, but taking time off from any of the jobs will create a hardship on her local and extended family at home.

Older Adult: KC is 72 years old and came to the United States many years ago from Ghana. He is divorced, his children do not live in the area, and you often see him at the senior citizen’s center where you volunteer. He has uncontrolled hypertension.

Mental Health: Arkady was born in the former Soviet Union. He has battled depression most of his adult life and has been hospitalized again in the mental health facility 30 miles from his family for a suicide attempt. Although he has health insurance, the benefits for his diagnosis are about to expire.

Jean-Watson Theory

In a power point presentation based on Jean-Watson Theory answer the following:

1-   A brief overview of the theorist’s background.

2-  Discussion of the theorist’s view of the four basic concepts of the nursing metaparadigm and two other concepts unique to the theory

3-An analysis and a critique of the model with a focus on elaboration of the theory’s implications for nursing practice, nursing education, and nursing research.

In a different page , a word document.

A packet of materials should be posted. The packet should include a detailed outline of the PowerPoint presentation and a one-page summary of each of five relevant articles on or about the theory and at the top of the page should have the complete reference in APA format. It should also include any handouts, such as charts, diagrams, or definitions, which will facilitate understanding of the PowerPoint presentation and the theory itself.

relative density

1. Using the graph that you created in Graph 1 as a reference, where should the pipet float if the solution was a 13.0% sugar solution? How do you know this?

2. Using the graph that you created in Graph 1 as a reference, determine the carbohydrate content of the three beverages that you measured with your hydrometer.

3. Describe how your results compare to those listed on the food labels for the three beverages (recorded in Data Table 2). Calculate the percent error for each and show your work.

4. What is a monosaccharide and what is its chemical composition?

5. Why do food industries need to determine carbohydrate content? How many Calories are in 1 gram of carbohydrates?

6. How are carbohydrates separated from fats and proteins in foods that contain all three macronutrients?

7. Describe two methods for calculating carbohydrate content that were not used in this laboratory.

8. Define the relative density of a substance. Describe how you used the relative density to determine the carbohydrate content of the three unknown substances.
