Consider the similarities and differences between iron deficiency anemia and the type of anemia you selected.

In clinical settings, advanced practice nurses often encounter patients with blood disorders such as anemia. Consider the case of a 17-year-old girl who is rushed to the emergency room after suddenly fainting. The girl’s mother reports that her daughter has had difficulty concentrating for the past week, frequently becomes dizzy, and has not been eating normally due to digestion problems. The mother also informs the nurse that their family has a history of anemia. With the family history of anemia, it appears that this is the likely diagnosis. However, in order to properly diagnose and treat the patient, not only must her symptoms and family history be considered, but also factors such as gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior. This poses the question: How do patient factors impact the incidence and prevalence of different types of anemia?
To Prepare
Review Chapter 21 in the Huether and McCance text. Reflect on the pathophysiological mechanisms of iron deficiency anemia.
Select one of the following types of anemia: pernicious anemia, folate deficiency anemia, sideroblastic anemia, chronic inflammation anemia, or post-hemorrhagic anemia. Identify the pathophysiological mechanisms of the anemia you selected.
Consider the similarities and differences between iron deficiency anemia and the type of anemia you selected.
Reflect on how patient factors such as genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior might impact these anemic disorders.
By Day 3
Post an explanation of the pathophysiological mechanisms of iron deficiency anemia and the anemia you selected. Compare these two types of anemia, as well as their potential causes. Finally, explain how genetics, gender, ethnicity, age, and behavior might impact the anemic disorders you selected.

Work Motivation | Nursing School Essays

Have you ever wondered why you approach work a certain way while another person, who has the same salary and/or does the same job, seems to be motivated very differently? As an organizational consultant, familiarity with theories of work motivation, which are derived from years of behavioral science research, can help you to interpret employee behavior. Understanding the factors that motivate employees can help improve satisfaction levels within an organization, leading to increased performance and productivity.
Learning about work motivation is only one facet to understanding job satisfaction. In your role as a consultant, it is necessary to achieve a deeper understanding of employee behaviors. One way to do this is to analyze individual job attitudes and theories associated with job attitudes.
For this Discussion, select a work motivation or job attitudes theory presented in the Learning Resources. Think about how that theory might explain work motivation and job attitudes.
With these thoughts in mind:
an explanation of how the constructs of work motivation and job attitudes differ. Then describe the theory you selected and explain how the factors described in that theory might explain work motivation and job attitudes.

What Is an Orthopaedic Nurse?

An orthopaedic nurse helps patients with musculoskeletal issues including broken or fractured bones, arthritis, osteoporosis, joint replacements, and other injuries and diseases. This often includes assisting in orthopaedic surgeries as well as following up during recovery to ensure that patients are properly regaining strength and range of motion. In addition, orthopaedic nurses are trained in casting, traction, and other therapeutic measures for those suffering from musculoskeletal problems, and often educate and train patients on ways to alleviate symptoms and prevent further injury.
Top of Form
To gain experience, nurses who have worked in critical care, emergency room, surgical or other applicable settings will be well-poised to work within the orthopaedic specialty. There are also continuing education courses related to orthopaedics that can be completed for those interested in going into the field, including specialized courses in osteoporosis care, osteoarthritis care, and bodily trauma.
What Are the Education Requirements for Orthopaedic Nurses?
Earning an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) and passing the NCLEX-RN exam to become licensed in the state is required. Many hospitals prefer a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree but it is not a requirement for all hospitals. Those wanting to continue their orthopaedic nursing education are encouraged to complete a Master’s degree or higher.
Are Any Certifications or Credentials Needed?
The Orthopaedic Nurses Certification exam (ONC) is the specific certification for the orthopaedic nurse. Eligibility requirements include working as an orthopaedic nurse for at least 1000 hours, working as a RN for at least 2 years, and having an unencumbered RN license. Contact hours are required for renewal.
Typically, orthopaedic nurses work in hospitals, clinics, or private practices. However, the versatility of this nursing specialty means that there are additional settings where orthopaedic nurses are needed, including home health agencies, assisted living centers, and outpatient care facilities like rehabilitation centers. Orthopaedic nurses are also used in sports medicine and physical therapy.
What Does an Orthopaedic Nurse Do?
Orthopaedic nurses have many daily tasks, including seeing new patients and assessing symptoms, monitoring existing patients, and providing follow-up care to surgical patients. They also help with casting and wound dressing for the recently injured as well as motion therapy for those recuperating from injuries.
A large part of an orthopaedic nurse’s job involves pain management. They often help administer, monitor, and assess pain medications for patients and explain proper procedures to help minimize further injury and infection, thus minimizing future pain.
What Are the Roles and Duties of an Orthopaedic Nurse?

Assist doctors in providing care for musculoskeletal problems
Monitor patients’ vital signs
Help treat injuries with wound dressings or castings
Get a patient on a pain management schedule and assist in administering pain medications and monitoring for reactions and allergies
Educate patients on how to safely recuperate from surgery or injuries at home
Help patients improve strength and mobility following the correction of a musculoskeletal issue

What Does an Orthopaedic Nurse Practitioner Do?
Nurse practitioners are healthcare providers that help meet patient care demand. In some states, nurse practitioners function independently. While nurse practitioner schools offer specialties in more general care areas such as family medicine or acute care, nurse practitioners can even further specialize in residency programs in subspecialties such as cardiology or orthopaedics.
Orthopaedic nurse practitioners have a variety of job duties. They see patients with many different musculoskeletal disorders or injuries. They can evaluate patients in the clinic setting or in the hospital setting, and order imaging, treatments, and procedures for patients. They may assist in orthopaedic surgeries and setting broken bones, as well as perform joint injections, set casts, or place splints. They also track healing from treatment interventions and order subsequent tests, plan follow-up care, and collaborate with other members of the healthcare team (i.e. physical therapists, staff nurses, and nutritionists) to ensure patient needs are met.
Orthopaedic NPs can even earn certification in the field. The Orthopaedic Nurses Certification Board (ONCB) offers certification for NPs. Requirements for certification include:

Three years of experience as an RN or APRN
Have a current, valid RN or APRN license
Hold a master’s degree or higher

Have a minimum of 2,000 hours of APRN experience within the previous three years in the orthopaedic or musculoskeletal specialty, or who are enrolled in an orthopaedic fellowship or residency program through an accredited university.
Orthopaedic Nurse Salary & Employment
The average salary of an orthopaedic nurse is $76,282. Many things can affect salary, however, including experience, location, certifications, and education. The setting an orthopaedic nurse practices in can also cause wage fluctuations, as orthopaedic nurses can work in a variety of medical settings.
Due to the aging population, the demand for orthopaedic nurses continues to rise, making the job outlook very promising. Employers in many settings are in need of skilled orthopaedic nurses, so RNs in this particular specialty tend to be attractive hires.

Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company Meet Montgomery Gisborne, a graduate of Ryerson University in…

Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company
Meet Montgomery Gisborne, a graduate of Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario, with a rich history in electric vehicles. Since 1994, Gisborne has served on the executive of the Electric Vehicle Society, Canada’s largest electric vehicle organization. In 1996, he constructed an electric car to compete in the 1997 American Tour de Sol Solar & Electric Car Rally and placed tenth out of 50 entrants. His electric car placed first in 2003. Gisborne formed the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company in 2005 to bring electric boats to the market. The Loon was a custom-designed, six-metre pontoon-style prototype—a boat designed with 738 watts of solar panels overhead, serving as both a source of solar energy and a roof. With a cruising speed of 5 knots (9.3 km/h), the six-metre, eightpassenger Loon weighed in at 1000 kilograms, slightly heavier than a gas-powered version. Today, Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company offers the commercial version of the Loon (6.7 metres, 1000 watt [peak] solar array, with a top speed of 8 knots [14.8 km/h]) and the Osprey (9.75 metres, 2000 watt [peak] solar array, with the same top speed as the Loon). Montgomery Gisborne has a lot of money riding on the successful commercialization of the electric boat—over a quarter of a million dollars to be more precise. At $35 000 per Loon, almost twice the price of a comparable gasoline engine–powered equivalent, it could be a tough sell, requiring a seasoned sales professional. The trouble is, Gisborne is not only the salesperson, but he is also the production engineer, the web page designer, and the advertising and promotions manager: it’s a one-person show. No small surprise that when he received his first order for twelve boats, his eighteen hour days were not long enough! Personally scrambling to come up with enough materials to construct twelve Loons was a challenge. But Gisborne’s efforts were followed by disappointment when the buyer who ordered the boats was restricted to purchasing only five boats by his foreign government. Gisborne recognized that he could no longer do it all himself, so he hired some local talent to assist in the production of the boats and a part-time publicist to promote his creations. The publicity work has paid off, generating a significant order from Australia as well as deals coming in on the Internet. Now the question is: Which organizational structure will best suit the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company?
QUESTIONS
Interpret
1. Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company is a start-up company. Many contemporary organizational designs do not lend themselves to the reality of start-ups. In your view, which of the contemporary organizational designs are inappropriate? Explain.
2. Which approach to decision making—centralized or decentralized—would be most beneficial for Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company? Support your answer.
Analyze
3. Do you feel that a concerted effort to involve key stakeholders would offer the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company a sustainable competitive advantage?
4. One possible organizational structure for the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company would be to hire a small number of full-time employees who contract out certain aspects of the work such as hull fabrication, electronic components, boat interior components, advertising, accounting, and final assembly. Many aspects of running the company could be undertaken remotely. Would a network organization be an option for the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company?
Practise
5. Organizational structure refers to the formal arrangement of jobs within an organization. Suppose you have been retained to develop an organizational structure for the Tamarack Lake Electric Boat Company. First, discuss which of the purposes of organizing support the need for an organizational structure in this company. Second, given the need for flexibility, adaptability, and nimbleness in this start-up company, which organizational design would you recommend for the company at the moment and why?

strategy brief social business strategy for a not-for-profit organization

strategy brief social business strategy for a not-for-profit organizationPaper details:You have now had a chance to explore how social/mobile impacts you as an individual and also corporations. You have successfully examined some of the current issues and non-traditional uses of these technologies that are improving/impacting the world. You have heard of companies like hitRECord.org and Ushahidi, learned about the principles of being a social business in your readings and critically analyzed the effectiveness of a corporate social media strategy. You will be preparing a strategy brief social business strategy for a not-for-profit organization. This not-for-profit can be of any scale (local, provincial, national or international). You will be required to include an overarching strategy and also at least 1 campaign that they can activate using social (e.g. contest, challenge, event – or some other “call to action”). If you are working with or volunteering for a not-for-profit, you may want to consider sharing this with them after you complete the assignment and get your feedback to incorporate so that there is an extra value to this assignment for something that you believe in. Traditionally, the non-profit sector has struggled with incorporating a social strategy due to the lack of resources (in terms of staff and knowledge)… You can help fill that gap! Since social causes and the voluntary sector is a very personal choice, you will have the ability to choose any organization you wish. Multiple students may have the same organization. While you are encouraged to collaborate, please be sure to ensure that you do not “overshare” information that could result in an academic integrity issue. Becoming engaged in our social society carries with it significant responsibility for both individuals and organizations. This assignment will focus on the best practices and considerations for social and mobile technologies for not-for-profits. Just as businesses build their brand through various methods and touch-points, our non-profit brands are established and projected through our participation in our various social channels. Often, they leverage social and mobile technologies as vital lifelines not only for awareness, but also for their fundraising efforts. As you have discovered, this ecosystem carries with it inherent long term risks if it is not used responsibly. However, when used properly these tools can be very powerful in unlocking a world of opportunity and global reach. The amplification of an organization’s message can be virtually limitless and the potential to engage with key stakeholders and funders from around the globe. Your main guidepost for this assignment will be your readings and the tactics identified in Sandy Carter’s blog, especially the social business AGENDA: You will need to conduct conduct a critical analysis of your selected cause’s current social engagement strategy using social networking and mobile technologies to create that sense of loyalty and community for their consumers. Look into their current campaigns and past documented successes to determine their effectiveness. Look into their Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, etc. accounts to gain a sense of how they are using these technologies. How could your organization improve in the future? How can/should they measure their effectiveness? As you go through your assignment don’t forget: Being social takes time – Realize this when you are getting started. Although there is virtually no barrier to entry, being truly social over the long term requires you to dedicate time and effort to keep producing compelling content. Be an active user – You need to keep your presence fresh to keep your audience interested. Keep in mind your audience may be friends, potential employers, others with common interests in the cyberworld, classmates, etc. Measure your success – Understand your reach. Explore social analytics. If you are using tools that have specific social analytics, review those to see how you are reaching others, and what they are interested in. Subscribe two a service like Klout to see how you compare with others in your sphere of influence. Be authentic – What is your “brand identity?” How to you stay true to yourself in your online interactions? What voice are you using? Be accurate – Don’t spread misinformation and if you misstate something, be sure your apology resonates as broadly as your first statement. Think of Twitter. If you have in anyway helped to perpetuate a false message, how can you “make things right?” Be respectful – Social media creates conversations. Encourage conversations and embrace the feedback of others! Respect those who chime in on your topics or that you are responding to. That doesn’t mean you have to always agree, but it does mean that you conduct yourself in a way that preserves your own reputation. Your social media strategy is to address the following at a bare minimum: Opting in and Participating – What channels will your orgnization participate in going to engage in? Why? Why are you opting not to engage in others? (Note: You must participate in a minimum of 4 of the following in your action plan: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Vine, YouTube, Google+ or a social network of your choice which must be fully described in your paper). What are the goals for the various channels? What messages will your organization be projecting? How will you integrate mobile technology to help your organization sustain its social presence? Which platform have you selected? (iOS, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile?) Why have you made this selection? What aggregation tools might they use to help you communicate more effectively? (e.g. Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, etc.) How will they measure and manage their success/reach? What social analytics will they measure? Will sentiment analysis play a role? What “rules of engagement” will they have ? How will they handle criticisms and conflict? What protections/policies will they have in place to protect from compromising accounts and hence their brand? Reminder: These resources were provided for you for your first assignment. If you need inspiration or would like to walk through a good document full of considerations, I recommend the following article as well as the attached Sample Social Media Strategy. http://www.marketingsavant.com/docs/ebooks/Social%20Media%20Strategy%20Workbook.pdf Structure of the Report Length: You must have a minimum of 2500 words, and should not exceed 3000 words in your strategy report. (I would expect you to use no less than 5 reliable external sources to assist you in preparing this course component). However, not more than 30% of your content should come from another source. This includes your own work! Since you may choose to incorporate some of your work from previous coursework, don’t forget to cite your own work (including anything developed during your group work!)
